Question about 2004 Ford Taurus

2004 Ford Taurus Dash and taillight fuse keeps blowing..

2004 Ford Taurus, the fuse for the Dash and taillights keeps blowing. It doesn't blow immediately, only after being driven for a short bit. I do have a remote start on the car that when used, lights up the dash and taillights do work. Then, after inserting the key, dash lights go back out. I did take it into a local shop that couldn't figure out the problem. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the post. I should have been alittle more clear. The remote start was installed about 3 yrs ago and has worked fine. The point I was trying to make was that ALTHOUGH the dash and taillights are out, when I use the remote start the dash lights come on and the taillights do work - until I insert the key to drive, then they go back out. My thought was that this would provide a good clue as to where the problem might be.

    Again, all help is appreciated.

It sounds like who ever hooked up the remote starter may have crossed wires I would recommend takeing it back to who installed the remote starter and have them look to make sure something is not crossed in the system

My 2005 matrix keeps blowing 15amp rear running light fuse every time light get turned on all other lights work fine.whats causing this?

fuses blow because of dead shorts or excess current draw
to blow a 15 amp fuse indicates a dead short
by disconnecting the rear lights , the problem is in something else you have replaced
could be a problem in the head light wiring

My gearshift doesnt work and my #42 stomp lamp fuse keeps blowing

Put a taillight bulb in place of the fuse and disconnect things till the light goes out to find a short. Or-you can buy fuses that light up when blown.

Pull the electrical connector to the visors out of the headliner and disconnect it from both visors, see if the short goes away.

All the lights work except the dash lights. The 5 amp fuses keep blowing and if I put a 15 amp it doesnt blow but no dash lights

DASH HAS A SHORT CIRCUIT.DASH NEED REPLACING BUT CHECK FOR SHORTS IN THE WIRES TO DASH.DONT PUT A LARGER AMP FUSE IN A CIRCUIT TO KEEP FROM BLOWING FUSE BECAUSE IF FUSE DONT BLOW WIRES GET HOT IN THE CIRCUIT THAT HAS A SHORT IN IT AND CAUSE A CAR FIRE.

FUSES KEEP BLOWING FOR THE DASH AND TAIL LIGHTS

your lights are grounding out some where you will have to check for a dead short in the wiring use a volt meter in the resitance mode and track through you power side of the lights untill you find your dead short, start at the back and work your way to the fuse box pull the fuse and follow the wire. there is a short in it it will just take some time going through look for worn coating, cracks, or melted.
good luck & and happy hunting

Sounds like loose wires. Had a similar problem with my 03 Durango. Kept blowing fuses when I put them in. Came to find out my trailer wiring harness had fried and was shorting out.
