SOURCE: no spark
If the check engine light is on, rent a scanner, read out any codes and pursue to repairs. The Haynes service manual that I have (which describes the 3.1 liter engine) shows the position sensor as being in about the middle of the rear of the block. Is this correct? What sort of ignition does the engine have? If it is a HEI type distributor, they have a habit of shorting the rotor out--look for a white spot underneath the hole where the shaft goes which shows that it was arcing through. If you have a coil block type ignition, then it is driven by the engine computer which could have failed in some way. A computer scan should reveal that. Good luck!
