Open Question

Trying to start my 05 tundra. My fingers slip off the key while trying to turn ignition on. Didnt turn over all the way then suddenly i heard a sound, like an electrical appliance burned. It wont start after. Replaced the starter, now hears metal clicking sound when tries to start it. What can it possibly be ?. Check fuses and relays, all are good. Please help.

Even though I bought the vehicle new, there was an aftermarket security system installed. The system had a bad diode, so i removed the system and reconnected the factory wires.

How do you disable a 2008 Toyota tundra anti theft system

Tip & How-To about Cars & Trucks
Want to bypass your vehicle security system?

The short answer is you can't!

All modern cars have alarms and immobilizers. There is a chip in the key and a chip in the ignition lock. If both are present, the ECM (engine control module) releases power to the ignition circuit. When you turn the key, the starter spins the engine and you get a spark. If any one of those three items are not in the chain, you get the engine to turn, but no spark. There is no way to beat the system.

The immobilizer is in place to stop exactly what you are trying to do. Vehicle theft has reduced to virtually nil.

Toyota tundra truck suddenly dont start after parking for 10 to 15mins

Look under the dash on the driver side for a fuse/relay box. There should be a label on there telling what each is for. Look for blown fuses and do the same in the box in the engine compartment.

hi sounds like your fuel pump is going out . i would also change the fuel filter . over time with different types of gas and also gas cleaners mess up the fuel pump or fuel filter . there a test you can do . remove the hose right before fuel filter , face away from the truck in to safe bucket or gas can. have some one turn key to on , not start. and see if there steady stream or is it barley coming out this would mean fuel pump is bad. hope this helps

Sometimes I turn the ignition key to start my 2007 4.7 v-8 tundra pickup & I just here a click after trying several times the starter engages . Not several clicks just one . After checking battery...

The problem is the starter solenoid. It will steadily get worse until it just won't start anymore. The solenoid has corrosion between the contacts. When you turn the key the contacts are not making connection. The corrosion will get a little worse each time you crank it.

Key stuck in ignition lights stay on will start won't click to last position to pull out

had this problem on my 97. The rubber boot that covers the front of the gear shift lever down on the console will slip up and keep the release button from releasing all the way. Just push it back down with your fingers and it should allow you to turn your ignition key all the way to the release position.

My tundra wont start but all the lights and radio

That might be a possibility. Asssuming when you say it wont start you mean it won't crank over. First check battery voltage at the battery with a dvm when you turn the key to the start position. Then check the voltage at the starter when you turn the key to the start position. If both readings are the same and you must have a reading of at least 12dcv. Try turning the ignition key to the on position( not the start) and jump the positive voltage from the starter to the solenoid terminal. The starter should crank over if the proper voltage is present. If the starter just clicks or just attemps to start. yes, you need to replace your starter

05 tundra, battery went dead with doors locked

The key won't turn in the door lock? Spray some graphite or lubricant into the lock cylinder and work it some. If you have been using the remote all these year and never the key its probably a little rusty.
