SOURCE: 2000 jeep grand cherokee 4.0 liter engine timing belt replacement

If you have the same pulley arrangement that most 4.0 engines have that pulley is an idler not a tensioner. Your power steering pump has a pivot bolt, and a slide under the pump. You adjust belt tension using the pump.

2002 jeep liberty motor-2.4 chain driven component below crankshaft need to find if position matters and how to time

no photos. so help will limited .
all cam timing matters.
"not sure what does", the cam, crank, sprocket or pin?
The 2.4L inline 4 engine, is a throw back old Dodge Neons
DOHC engine ,a twin cam head.
2002 is first year, Liberty in USA>
is this the 2.4L turbo engine, EDZ engine.??
KJ jeep it is.
be nice to say what job your working? HOw'd you get here?
if you buy the service manual from jeep
chapter 9s, covers this 2.4 total engine, in one chapter.
but this engine cams are Belt drive. NOT CHAIN.
first post that it really is, this engine? or the VIN, or photos.

so you must be confused on that is there.
the other engine, the 3.7L is a V6 engine vastly different than the 4 banger.
it has chains.
covered in chapter 9- page 71 +
this v6 has a counterbalancer too.
i recommend reading the FSM book on this engine , after counting cylinder, 4 or 6? and reading chapters 9 or 9s.

see KJ 2002 here
RTM read the manual

Where i can find the engine number ofr jeep cherokee kj model 203 v6

wow, no year.! 203 = 2003?
and rule changed in 2001
and world wide, is this car USA car or export.?????
first off ,lets use real engine names.
models: are:
KJ / Since 2002 The Liberty (called Cherokee outside USA, very odd that)
so you are export , by using wrong name as Cherokee.
some countries, the engine has no serial at all starting in 2001.
so... no country no joy.
1million posts with no country here, SSDD.
my guess is the 3.7Liter engine. V6 (mines,a 3.8L V6)
The EKG is a 3.7 L V6 version built in Detroit, Michigan.
buying parts from Jeep EKG is very handy.
x10
so most USA 3.7 the serial is front right side of block.

ask jeep dealer to help you? they have vin records that answer this.
see how all this falls apart, MATE+Australia (IIRC)
not how engine vary world wide, !!
and is because each country have there own LAWs on imported cars.
this fixya web sit is USA site, so answer will be for non exported jeeps, so what country? mate? petrol?
or a 3.7L buddy, gas.

my second time posting this in 3.7L searches do work.

Diagram timing of v6 engine of liberty 2001 model

that v6 engine has no timing adjustment. it has a timing chain. so if there is a stretch on chain, it must be replaced according to factory service manual. only thing you need to watch is to mark the position of gears before you remove chain. also timing of ignition is maintained by engine controller. if you need a custom setup you need chip tuning for that.

Diagram timing of v6 engine of liberty 2001 model

2001 , no such ani-mule !
"Introduced for the 2002 model year as a replacement for the Cherokee (XJ),"
you meant manufactures date not model and reg. date. sure.
2002 !
3.7L V6 (cop spark ) chain drive cams....
timing ( cam or spark?)
"Ignition timing is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). No adjustment is possible"
so Cam timing (alldata.com covers this in detail)
why not post the context, Im doing what.?
im doing a 60k belt swap
or it slipped. or think id did.
or just put in a new head or cam? see , context is 100% important.
im here, going to there.....
im on line, and it shows 4 engines, i think that is wrong, but...

you must be asking chain cam sprocket timing.
im at alldata.com (or FSM)
there are 37 install steps, im not sure what step you want me
to pluck out. but here is my guess. step 8 ,9,10
  1. Install both secondary chains onto the idler sprocket. Align two plated links on the secondary chains to be visible through the two lower openings on the idler sprocket (4 o'clock and 8 o'clock). Once the secondary timing chains are installed, position special tool 8429 to hold chains in place for installation.
  2. Align primary chain double plated links with the timing mark at 12 o'clock on the idler sprocket.
  3. Align the primary chain single plated link with the timing mark at 6 o'clock on the crankshaft sprocket.
step 12:
Install all chains, crankshaft sprocket, and idler sprocket as an assembly . After guiding both secondary chains through the block and cylinder head openings, affix chains with a elastic strap or equivalent. This will maintain tension on chains to aid in installation. Align the timing mark on the idler sprocket gear to the timing mark on the counterbalance shaft drive gear, then seat idler sprocket fully . Before installing idler sprocket bolt, lubricate washer with oil, and tighten idler sprocket assembly retaining bolt to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).

step 13:
  1. Align left camshaft sprocket "L" dot to plated link on chain.
  2. Align right camshaft sprocket "R" dot to plated link on chain.

step 15/16
  1. Remove Special Tool 8429, then attach both sprockets to camshafts. Remove excess oil from bolts, then Install sprocket bolts, but do not tighten at this time.
  2. Verify that all plated links are aligned with the marks on all sprockets and the "V6" marks on camshaft sprockets are at the 12 o'clock position.

do ask questions, or login to alldata.com or mitchels
or get a real FSM.
its nothing trivial.

in fact get the book before the job. so are perpared.

Does my 2001 Jeep cherokee 3.7 have a belt or chain?

Chain, belts are for smaller engines that don't have alot of torque or stress on them. If your vehicle is a V8 there is noway that it would have a belt. and even a V6 being a SUV wouldn't be either. Hope I could help.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee timing belt/chain replacement (not 4WD)

I BELIEVE THAT IT HAS A TIMING CHAIN. IT SHOULD BE CHANGED AT OR ABOUT 100,000 MILE. BUT IT DOESN'T NECESSARILY NEED TO BE CHANGED THEN, JUST INSPECTED.

Does V6 Cherokee Larado have a timing chain or belt?

First off, if you have a 2004 Grand Cherokee with the 4.0 liter 6 cylinder engine, then it is an inline 6 rather than a V-6. To answer your question, it has a timing chain.

1995 jeep cherokee timing

You don't have to touch the distributor while doing a timing chain. You didn't mention engine size but in this case it applys to all engines. You will find fairly good instructions in haynes manual for this job.
