SOURCE: Hood release cable disconnected. Is there

The cable terminates at the latch release located at the front center of the hood. If you can get to this, usually by removing the grill, find the lever the cable terminates in and move it manually with whatever tool you can get in there.

Heidi, No electric release. The latch is probably stuck. While you pull the interior hood release have an assistant push down and pull up repeatably/vigorously until hood releases from stuck position. Lube latch and cable before closing hood. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

How to open the hood when the hood release is not working.

Pull the release and have someone hit the hood with there hand in the middle of the hood, by the latch/front. Then adjust the latch upwards. If the cable is broke then go from the bottom and push the release left or right to release. Follow the cable.

Go under the dash and cut the outer sheath back over the inner steel cable, pull that inner cable with a pair of vise grip type pliers to release the hood latch.

I have a 2004 suzuki forenza and my hood pop latch

dab of grease at the hood pop latch thingy
normally one would replace a stretched hood release cable

any adjustment or way to tension the cable at the bonnet catch

never heard of a diff lock on a FWD
no fault codes for transmission
how many miles /kms had the transmission done

transmission uses shift solenoid
or failing torque converter ..(no codes for that )
=service transmission

Hood release under the dash has no tension on it. Hood will not latch closed

The latch is stuck in the open position. I always found white lithium grease worked best on those latches but any good lubricant will work. Try moving the latch manually with a screwdriver. After applying the lubricant move the latch a few times. You should see the tension return to the release, if it doesn't you have a broken release cable.

Stuck hood release

first, try smacking the hood at one of the front corners while someone else pulls the release handle. or even after you've pulled on it. if that works, once open, adjust and lubricate the hood latch assembly. if it still won't open, and it's the cable and not the latch you'll have to replace it anyway, so instead of removing the grill, cut the cable behind the pull lever under the dash where you can reach it. then skin the outer cable insulation away from the actual steel cable exposing an inch or two of it. then holding the insulation and plastic housing with pliers, grab the steel cable itself with pliers and pull it to open the hood. then replace the cable. the further you can reach up under the panel the better your chances of getting past the broken part of the cable and avoid removing the grill. you might also be able to gain access from up under the car if you're lucky.
