Question about 2000 Dodge Caravan

Check Engine light on and transmission will not shift from low.

Hi.. I got a used 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan 6 Cyl 3.3LCode a couple of weeks ago. I want to fix it myself but I have almost ''0'' experience on the matter. I took it to Auto Zone and the car is giving the following codes: p0700, p0755 and p1494. Where do I start?
Thank you...

Thank you for your prompt reply. I did unhook the battery because I had to change the water pump. It had been running with no water at all for a couple of days. The water indicator always showed the temp as normal. I added antifreeze and it is when I realized it had a bad water pump. After replacing the pump took it to a drive. The Check Eng. light was off for a couple of mins and then it came back.
The car is running in 'limp mode' ( I think, always in 2nd gear).

P0700 is a code for the Transmission Controller or TCM (Transmisison Controller Module). P0755 is a code for the 2-4 Shift Solenoid Circuit.

If you have no mechanical experince, have a friend that is familiar with working on cars check the TCM connector and wiring and make sure all is good there. Make sure the connector terminals are good and there is no corrosion on them. If all is good there, then there could be an internal transmission issue.

P1494 is the code for an evaporative systems or EVAP leak. It could be something as simple as a faulty gas cap or it could be a crack, or leak in the evap canister or evap lines. Simple start would be to replace the gas cap and see if that helps any. They are cheap and if it clears that code thats one less you have to deal with. If its not the gas cap the only other way I know of to isolate where the leak is happening is to have a smoke test.

Did they erase them by any chance? 2 out of the 3 come up transmission related. Does it feel likes it shifting funny or hard or anything? Not sure if unhooking battery will work on that year or not but worth a try if vehicle seems to shift fine. Then if codes come back, have it checked and repaired at that time, it may be a simple update needed to computer.

I have a 2008 dodge grand caravan and the check engine light came on, when I had it checked it said ers low voltage or low power I don't remember.

Putting the code in with your question would be much better than three different phrases. If it really is an electronic range selector, it sounds like problems with the transmission. If it came back, it means your transmission needs to be inspected, and repaired if necessary. If you don't, you may find yourself in 'limp-in' mode at the worst possible time. In this condition, the transmission controller puts it in second gear and it will not shift up.
