SOURCE: overdrive transmission
O/D light flashing is computer indicating an issue with the transmission -no surprise. Make sure the transmission fluid is still good (dosn't smell burnt, right level). Slipping could be the TCC (torque Converter clutch) - not a cheap part - but would only really slip in 4th gear (above 40 mph). Slipping before that could be numerous things in the trans (low fluid pressure, torque converter issues).
I would be tempted to replace the fluid anyhow, but there is a chance an expensive issue is starting to arise - and replacing the fluid on a failing transmission could cause it to fail 100% (or can fix it nearly 100%). These can be touchy transmissions, too much DIY without the right diagnostic tools can be bad. Not what you wanted to hear, and not an expert, but have had some expertise with these.hope that helps.

If you find a red key flashing it means that the car has got antitheft system fitted. Is your car alarmed? What about the key, has it got a remote?
SOURCE: 1991 Mazda 626 DX dies suddenly after running for 10 minutes.
Hello, It sounds like an engine ignition control module gone out or a coil. They get hot and quit working after a short period of time, cool off then work again till they get hot.
Is the ignition system pointless electronic or does it have points? Are you getting any fire at all now to the cylinders? Does the tach in the vehicle show any RPM's during cranking? Do you have voltage at the positive side of the ignition coil? Does the coil meet the ohm ratings for that years vehicle ignition? Does the vehicle have oil in it so the oil pressure sensor allows the engine to run, this may not be an option on your particular vehicle? You can check most of this out with a volt/ohm meter. Check your voltages before starting the vehicle, during running and after it quits to see where the loss is. Just don't get near the center tap of the coil or you will get a rude awakening and/or serious injury. Good luck, RAC
SOURCE: I have a 2004 Mazda Tribute
I recently solved the very same problem on my tribute. I really needed a tune up, Plugs, fuel filter, pcv valve, cleaned throttle body, and mass air flow sensor. My problem went away, and engine runs great and idles perfect.. If you havent had a tune up recently maybe this will help you.

I had the same problem. Buy a new cam position sensor. Problem solved!
Car
not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can
be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it
can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or
no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition
coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.
To
confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.
