The speedometer on my 1996 Honda Accord keeps sticking on 20 mph. What can I do to fix it?
your choices are a few, and dependent on how much you are willing to spend to fix a minor defect
on a 500 dollar car.
first get a repair manual on CD or look for a video of someone pulling a mid 90s honda instrument cluster on www.youtube.com. if that task looks to be within your skill set, buy a used honda instrument cluster for about 25 bucks at a junkyard or on ebay/craigslist. bear in mind it will be 16 years old too and your odometer will be completely wrong forever. swap in your newly acquired one and hope for the best.
alternatively look for a speedometer cable or speed sensor for your car at autozone.com or advance.com. if it has a speed sensor you can buy a new one swap it in and hope for the best. if it has a cable buy one. Pull the old cable out, squirt some graphite lube down into the new one install it and hope for the best.
when you are all done, you will still have a 500 dollar car so long as it runs. a new set of GOOD plug wires and plugs might be a more sensible investment for the future.
