Question about 2000 Ford Escort
1996 1.6 16v ford escort. 150 000 kms.New cam belt, water pump, idlers and tensioners. Serviced regularly. Silencers missing from exhaust due to previous owners neglect. Use 93 unleaded. Suspect fault with the engine management and/or sensors.
First thing I would do is hook a scanner to the car to check the throttle position sensor and coolant temp sensor to make sure the car is getting up to temp. If it's not getting up to 195 degrees, none of your controls are going to work right. Also, make sure it's full of coolant because low coolant will make the car think it's in cold weather and make it run rich. Also, a thermostat will make a car have this kind of problem. Phil
