Question about Jeep Wrangler

1 Answer

When you start to drive my 1994 jeep wrangler everyday...right at first maybe a half of a block it makes a loud noise like I have hit something. almost like the bottom is falling out. Could this be a clutch problem? rear end ?? If it doesn't make this noise the first half block then it doesn't do it. Only when I start to drive on my way to work or home from work. Any thoughts? thanks Rick

Do you feel it pulling one way or the other prior to this noise? Does it feel at all sluggish, holding back a bit, until after this happens? Do you feel any difference in performance or steering after it happens?

It only does this first thing in the AM, and on cold start on 'way back home? What about weekends. If you drive multiple places does it ever do it then? Does it happen in one particular gear? If it does, what happens if you skip that gear (shift 1st to 3rd for example)? What do engine &trans mounts look like?
If the temps in your area are very cold, you may try changing trans lube. I believe they use atf, not gear oil in your vehicle. Also, check the slip joint on your front driveshaft (check "u" joints as well...all of them)
Sounds a lot like something is binding then freeing itself up till it sits for a while!

I have 1994 wrangler I am getting alot of oil in the air filter. Is it a bad pcv valve?

You may be right about a bad pcv valve i would start by replacing that, also theres been problems with the tubing for the pcv system, this contains a bunch of tubes a (plastic) that connect to the valve cover and air box and the intake this system gets blocked or restricted, and sometimes the hoses break so make sure its not broken or plugged, start with these tips, hope this helps.

94 wrangler 4 cylinder makes a whining noise and wont turn over when you try to start it, the serpentine belt does not move, it cranked over a couple of times but it was making a grinding sound and i...

Sounds like something in the engine "froze" or stuck Unhook the battery and try turning the engine with a wrench/rachet both ways. Check the timing belt, if broken the pistons will come up and hit the valves then stop everything from turning. Is one of the pullies stuck? Take off the serpentine belt and check all pullies to see if they turn.

06 Jeep Wrangler making a loud clincking or grinding when turning

Hi there,

By any chance is the transfer case engaged?

A locked drive train could account for the noise being made only on turns.

Bring the transfer case to neutral then back to 2-high.

Or try to duplicate the problem by putting it into 4-high. THAT way the dealership would know exactly what to look at.

1994 Jeep Wrangler hard to keep running

The fuel pump is located in the gas tank and the filter is right in front of the tank on the inside of the frame. I have never worked on that particular throttle body, but if it has a throttle position sensor, that could be what your problem is.

1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee 6 cyl 4wd

Check fluid level in transmission. If full, drop pan and check that filter is not plugged. If both are fine, have a trans shop take a look at it. Internal transmission work although not impossible to do, is generally best left for the people that do it for a living. Even most skilled automotive techs opt to have their units done elsewhere, even if they remove it themselves.
I know that you'd rather that I tell you that it's something easy but it's just not.
