Maybe this will help. best best is if you want to do it yourself pick up a service manual at the part store. it will take you step by step with alot more pictures

I have a Grand Am, manual trans. quad 4, with 137,000. Having a problem with bucking sometimes on take-off or driving and try to accelator and it bucks. Have done the following things..new air...

DON'T KNOW THAT THE CAUSE IS BUT 900 RPM IS WAY TOO HIGH FOR A NORMAL IDLE SPEED.
WHILE IT IDLING HOSE THE ENGINE WITH A MIST OF WATER AND LISTEN FOR A CHANGE IN IDLE SPEED OR AN ELECTRICAL SHORTING SOUND.
SHORTING SOUND = PLUG WIRES
SPEED CHANGE = A VACUME LEAK.

Need to replace motor and transmission in a 97 Pontiac Grand AM G

Changing from a 1992 to a 1997 < WILL NOT Be EASY , As you must HAVE the ENTIRE ENGINE WIRING HARNESS , And ALSO the ECM for the older Set up. In the "5" YEARS there Were MANY CHANGES to the ENGINE Components= SENSORS and ACTUATERS .
its just a BETTER IDEA to Stay Whitin a year or 2 when Swaping ENGINES. SIZE OF SENSORS ETC. MAKES IT DIFICULT

Oil Pan? Oil Pump? LEAK!! HELP!

Quad 4 parts shouldn't be hard to find look up the quad4fourms.com and see what they can get you. The pan is a pain to change. I would pressure wash the engine and go from there. How much oil is your car using?
