Thanks for all of the replies. In the meantime from other sources I also discovered that I was missing the 90 degree fitting on the end of the condensate darin tube. I replaced ast a cost of $22 which seemed to stop water from entering from the engine compartment.

However, I seem to still have a moisture entry problem that may be coming from the area closer to the side of the car. The rubbery insulation against the floorboard on the incline below the pedals is damp. It seems more damp on the left side verses the right, and is very damp at the bottom center (gravity). Just discoverd this last evening. The carpet padding is still dry.

Previously I verified that the sunroof and firewall vent drains do drain to underneath the car (i.e. not plugged up). I also found a TSB thatinvolved replacing the seal around the condensate drain. Cost at the dealer for this repair would be ~$540. And now that I added the 90 degree fitting, I do not that is where the problem is anyway.

The dealer did not offer up any "secret warranty." Guess the firewall crimp could be a source; also the winshield seal. I ran water in both areas but failed to see any water seapage, but then it is kind of hard to see everywhere under the dash anyway.

I was a manager at a Mitsubishi dealership.

There was a "secret warranty" on certain Galants where the firewall seam would fair and leak water into the interior. Call your local dealer to see if your vin qualifies. The fix is to simply reseal the firewall crimp seam with silicone sealant.

Alternatively, sunroof equipped cars sometimes get the drain channels clogged in time. Make sure to clean drain holes and use forced air if necessary.

Lastly, some cars have heaters with pollen filters. If those filters become clogged, condensation can accumulate and overflow into the interior.

If any of these solves your issue, please rate my answer

THE PROBLEM WAS WITH MY CAR THAT THE AC CONDENSATION DRAIN TUBE IS INADEQUATE IT WILL RUN BACK AND DOWN ONTO THE FLOORBOARD. I TOOK THIS TO A MITSUBISHI DEALER AND THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE FIXED AND THEY BLAMED IT ON MANY PROBLEMS. I FINALLY TOOK IT TO A RECOMMENDED MECHANIC AND IN 15MIN AND 45.00 HE HAD IT FIXED BY PUTTING A 90DEG FITTING ON THE DRAIN TUBE TO ENSURE PROPER DRAINAGE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND IT HAS BEEN FINE FOR OVER A YEAR. WHAT I FOUND OUT AND BY SPENDING ABOUT 300.00 AT THE DEALER IS THATA THEY DO NOT THINK OUTSIDE OF THE BOX, IF IT IS NOT IN THE REPAIR MANUAL THEY CAN'T FIX IT.

The problem is most likely the A/C condensation drain plug. It not easy to fix. And it only happens when you are running your A/C.

Additonaly, I would check your windshield. I have had this same problem. If you take it to a windshield repair place. they can clean out the seal around the windshield and re seal it. I have had this happen to me on 2 different cars. At first I thaught it was a bad heater core. But after further investigation I found it to be a bad seal in both cars around the windshield.

the area that water is coming in from under the hood. You can go out and get generic sylicone in the hand bumps like you put on your tub. you can even get black in color if you want. and seal that baby up. I use to use the sylicone on the MGB's like it was going out of style. They will tell you the stuff they are using is different, its not.

The only time I've ever had water inside on my floor was because my heater core crapped out. Check to see if the leak is coming from your heater box under the dash, if it is it's the heater core most likely.

the ac drain is more than likley stopped up, they tend to get clogged with debri not allowing the condensation from the evap. core to drain properly, thus allowing it to leak into the floorboard.

Water coming into car from a/c

there is a small plastic pipe coming out of the firewall right behind the power steering rack knuckle but unfournatly usally if the drain is stopped up it leaks in passenger side the driver side is caused by the water draing then beeing blown under the drain pipe and it comes back into the drivers floor board there is 2 fixes finding a rubber elbo works most of the the time but you may need to replace the gasket for the drain tube where it sets against the firewall wich involves pulling the dash out so keep your fingers crossed that the elbow works

Water on Drivers side Saturn SC2

Is it antifreeeze from heater core or heater core hose leak?  Is the leak pure water, or maybe something else?
Put it in the garage again overnight with an old white towel in the drivers foot well, best if you can find a way to stretch it from drivers seat forwar to firewall and keep it off of floor mat.  Check it before you go to bed,  then in the morning if no leak found yet.  see if the color/location of the spot helps you identify the source.  I think the heater core is under the dash center.  Anti freeze is green/yellow or orange.
good luck

Water leak on mitsubishi galant 1999

the probable cause is the drain for the ac coil is stopped up for an a/c leak inside.
if it smells like anti-freeze, the heater coil is leaking and may need to be replaced.
