If you have 6.0 you have two filters one down on the fuel pump modugle the filer housing unscerws make sure you disconnect the sensor connection. the second filter is located behind the inlet side of the intake not the turbo but the intake. you will see 1/2 sqaure . you use 1/2 rachet to remove the top . hint be carful of two things replace all the orings that come with the filters install the correctly do not start the vech just trun the key on check for leaks. if you have a7.3 you have only one filter it has a black top and you will need special tool to remove the top

These are easy to replace. it is located under the hood(depending on if you have the 7.3L) , and is a casister type filter with a black screw off cap on top. screw off the top-take the old one out-put the new one in-screw the cap back on. about a 5 min job. when you pick up the new filter, pick up a service manual for your truck and it will show diagram plus take you step by step

Slugish start on my excursion

Glow plugs do not "fire". You may be confusing the function of glow plugs as analagous to spark plugs in a gasoline engine; the purpose of glow plugs is to heat the air-fuel mixture to a temperature that will support the diesel auto-combustion process. The diesel process is not one in which the air-fuel mixture is ignited via spark like a gas engine; rather, the air-fuel mixture undergoes much higher compression and spontaneously explodes, generating the combustion in a self-sustaining manner. High compression produces much higher heat, but before it can begin, heat must be introduced into the system to get it started.

If you're having sluggish engine performance from your diesel engine, you may have fuel system issues such as fuel pump failure or fuel line restrictions (including fuel filter or strainer clogging), etc. At the "worst" end of the spectrum, one of more of your fuel injectors may have a problem - the fuel injectors on the Powerstrokes not only inject the fuel into the combustion chamber, but are also cooled and lubricated by the fuel - if the vehicle has ever been run out of fuel, the injectors may have been damaged and will need to be inspected for replacement.

I have a 2004 excursion diesel drove it all day stoped at a clients turned it off for 20 min came out and wont start the starter is going but its just not firing could it be a fuse I dont smell fuel but I...

Ok well the glow plugs on a diesel have nothing to do with the engine firing. All the glow plugs do is heat up the combusion chamber on cold starts. Diesel engines fire using high compression. An oxygen sensor won't cause the vehicle to not start and your diesel doesn't have one of those anyways. It could be a fuel related issue. (pump, line, pressure etc.) Have you it scanned for engine DTC's? But based on your knowledge of your diesel vehicle i'm going to suggest you take it to a shop.

2000 Ford Excursion Diesel has check engine light of P1391

glow plugs preheat the fuel to help the engine start.....when its hot outside its not that bad...the colder it gets the harder it will be to start with bad glowplugs..

2005 diesel excursion when towing 8000lb trailer up a hill, seemed to lose complete power - no shifting, couldn't accelerate.

From your symtoms I would suspect a clogged fuel filter. It may seem to run okay without a load, but it requires a larger supply of fuel under load. Anything that restricts the flow of fuel will cause what you described.

2002 F-250 7.3 l diesel leaking fuel at the fuel filter

Running Bio-Diesel should not be a problem, although BD is a great solvent that will dissolve petroleum desposits left behind by regular diesel. I suspect that the gaskets on the fuel drain valve are worn out and leaking fuel. Most of the time the whole valve is replaced, but I have seen only the two o-rings for sale on the internet. It is easier to repair by laying on your front side on a large pillow. If that does not work, come back to fixya and we will help you again.
