Hi my name is Allen!

The code 404 doesn't mean anything unless you read the code book, but if its pertaining to the EGR Valve Position Sensor Low or High. This means the EGR Sensor is stuck and the EGR Valve will need to be replaced and the code cleared.

For futher assistance contact me at FixYa!

1998 4 cylinder codep0404 what does it mean

Code 404 is a problem with the performance of the EGR valve.
Someone would need to test the operation of the valve and the sensor that watches it. You would need a shop manual for the procedure and basic tools.

What will be wrong if I got code p0406 and p 404

both codes po406 and po404 refer to a fault in the EGR system
Po404 > Exhaust Gas Recirculation Circuit Range/Performance not within proper range.
Po406> Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor A Circuit High (meaning the circuit is open or disconnected)
Without actualy checking the voltages (wiring)
Replace the EGR valve

Error code 404?

I would suspect you have a faulty EGR valve. The best way to test the valve is with a scan tool. The p0404 code is set when the actual EGR position does not match the commanded position sent to the valve from the pcm. IF you remove the valve and command a fixed position with a scan tool the valve should open to that position and hold. If the valve moves in and out when commanded to a fixed value then the position sensor inside the valve has failed and the valve needs to be replaced.

Engine light came on, car is hard to start. Just downloaded the codes and it shows 404 and 456. What part do I need to replace?

404 is an EGR code
and 456 is gas leak

So probably tighten gas cap or replace gas cap for code 456 then for code 404 clean carbon deposits from EGR valve or replace it then e mail me for a certain test that has to be done at thanks

2005dodge ram 1500 Hemi missing when taking off

404 & 406 appear EGR related. Check all hoses & connections at EGR. My guess is once EGR is fixed 430 will disappear. I believe EGR is just below & to left of alternator, 2 small bolts holding on.
