Saturn L200 2002 electrical /engine does not work

My father owns  a L200 2002 saturn the engine does not turn over and the electrical does not work, including the locks.  He has never had trouble with the car before.  What could be the problem?

I have had the electrical system "go out" 3-4 times. It is NOT the battery, might be a safety interlock. I have not found a specific solution. I have rocked the car, connected/unconnected the battery, pulled and replaced the fuses. And, I have "jiggled" the ignition, played with the gear shift/steering wheel/brake. Always finally got it started again but cannot seem to truly solve the problem.

Is there ANY Power to Anything? It could be the Battery going Bad or Even Just a Loose Battery Cable.

Ok, Definately Check the Battery cables first. Tighten them down a little and see what you get. Might even have to take the Wires off the Battery and Clean the Terminals. Use Coca Cola, Pour on terminals and it will Disolve Corrosion. If these fixes do not work you will Need a New Battery. Get an Interstate Battery, VERY Reliable and worth the extra 10.00 Bucks!

Tighten the battery connections with a wrench, not pliers!
Loose battery problems are a common problem with GM side mount terminals. They need to be very tight to work right.

Happened to me before too! No power, no lights, no radio, no crank.

2000 Saturn LS engine problems

There is no common thing. Todays vehicles are high tech and will turn on a check light, once or twice a year. You can expect to pay at least $2000 a year, per vehicle, for preventative maintainance and repairs,if you don't do all your own work.

The car starts, but when you drive it, the rpm's do not stay stable and it shuts down about five times a day.It soon starts back up again but it keeps on shuting down.

I used to own a 1994 Saturn SL 2. I remember an electrical power module that took the place of the distributor which burned out on me. It is easily available at Auto Zone and easily replaced on a side mounted four cylinder engine. This component burns out due to engine heat and road heat. If this does not fix your problem the next item I would look at is the throttle position sensor. If it turns out to be the electronic distributor, then replace the wires and sparks while you are in there. I remember a new car feel after I made this change. Good luck and you can do this on your own.

I have a 1992 saturn automatic 2 door and sometimes when i come to a stop it seems to have no gears or not shift to the other gears on its own any thoughts?

So you have to turn the engine off and wait for a couple of minutes? When it doesn't work from a stop does it just rev up like it's in neutral?
