My 2003 Buick Regal wouldn't start on a very cold day. I came back the next day and decided to shift it out of park and back into park and it started right up. What could cause that to happen? 3800 engine

When you said "it wouldn't start" did it turn over (starter cranking the engine) or did it act like the battery was dead and wouldn't crank, even though all the dash lights lit up?

If it simply didn't crank over but then by you shifting it out of park, then back into park, may indicate a park/neutral switch problem.

It may have been something as simple as the shifter, when the vehicle was last parked, didn't fully engage the park/neutral switch into the park position. BUT by you moving the shifter out and back into park it engaged the switch.

Cold weather can do some strange things sometimes when it comes to mechanical devices. IF it acts up again, simply try the "trick" that worked the last time.

It may just be temperature related and may not give any more problems once the weather warms up.

Hope this helps.

94 buick lesabre 3800 engine, stalls after 10 mile drive and will not start till cools. replaced TPS, Fuel pumpand filter, cam sensor, crank sensor, and ignition control module.

next time it won't run after it heats up, spray or pour water in crank sensor and see if it will start. I have seen new crank sensors go bad.

Key won't turn sometimes when you try to crank vehicle, especially in cold weather

get to your local repair shop and get a new ignition put in your steering column ASAP because if you dont the tumblers inside may fall making it almost impossible to get your key inside the ignition. if this ever happens that you cant get your key in all the way than dont hesitate to take your snowbrush and give it a few good whacks in there. (this should just be temporary to take the jeep to the garage not to drive it around, all im trying to do is save you from having to call a tow truck)

Hi, I have a Nissan Altima 95. Had a starter problem. I live in colder climate region of Alberta, canada. I purchased a used starter from a parts seller in Texas. I replaced the starter in July of 2009....

Yes continious cranking of an engine puts a big strain on a starter in any weather, but almost certainly in cold, it takes a lot of amps to turn an engine, It maybe the fuel is starting to freeze?, Maybe it's an electrical issue such as points, plugs timing, distributor cap, rotor arm inside the cap, maybe it's just settings

2002 Ford Escape V6 XLT, problem w/ initial start in cold weather

Does the engine crank but just not start? Or... are you cycling the ignition switch without trying to crank the engine? Based on the information you have given, I would first guess that the fuel pump may be going out. I say this because when you first turn the key on the pump primes the engine with pressurized fuel. If the pump is getting old, it may take a few power cycles to get it going. You can test this theory by having somebody listen near the rear of the car while you turn the key on for the first time. The fuel pump make a faint, yet distinctive high pitch noise that can be heard when you turn the key on. Try that first. Next thing you would try is checking the relays for proper function... starting with the fuel pump relay. Good luck.

Won't start and stalls when Air is on.

firs try to put the key on the on position and then off befor starting few times this will help pump the fuel to the engine and help it to start . second use antifreez , special type of oil if your weather is mostly cold ,

Car will not start

If the starter is good, a bad ignition module or failed fuel pump will produce similar symptoms, i.e. no cranking, nothing happening when you turn the key. Ignition module sits under the distributor cap and is about the size and shape of a cassette tape with 2 female plugs and one male plug. Quick way to check the fuel pump is to put the car in a quiet place like inside the garage. Find a quiet friend to sit behind the wheel and turn the key so the dash lights come on, DO NOT TURN THE KEY FULLY LIKE YOU'RE TRYING TO START. You get down on the ground and listen near the gas tank for the quiet hum of the fuel pump that tells you it is working.
