Head gaskets can\will leak between the head and block. I would also check where the intake meets the heads. But normally if its leaking there itll get into the oil.check for puddles where the intake meets the block in all four corners of the intake. At the beginning of the cold weather did you have good coolant in it? you may have a freeze plug partially popped out.that, normally that will be caused by weak coolant but they can pop out by age.A freeze plug is a much easier fix than head or intake gaskets.
keep me posted thx.......

it may not be anything to do with oil, it could be that you have a coolant leak that needs to be checked out. white smoke is usually an indication of coolant more so than oil.

1997 jeep cherokee country white smoke under hood, runs good, does not run hot

Interesting.
White smoke is usually burning coolant.
You should be loosing a fluid, something has to be burning to make the smoke.
It could be a very slight drip onto the hot exhaust manifold or pipe if it is only happening from under the hood.

Overheating still has coolant, white part blew out of the tailpipe, made a banging noise then starting smoking. Overheating with all fluid high. Told there was a front seal oil leak but not bad. Lost 2...

  • White smoke out out the tail pipe means you might have just blown your head gasket. White smoke is water (antifreeze) burning with the oil.

My s 430 has smoke coming from under hood after driving but not all the time temp gauage reads normal. I had oil and trans leaks sealed but it is still happening, what else could it be? Thanks

SMOKE UNDER HOOD COULD BE COOLANT LEAK FROM RADIATOR ITSELF OR CHECK FOR LEAKING TOP RADIATOR HOSE AND CHECK FOR LEAKING BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE.LOOK UNDER THE HOOD IF COOLANT BOILING OUT COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG ENGINE OVERHEATING FROM BAD THERMOSTAT OR BAD WATER PUMP.CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAK AT WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE.IF SO WATER PUMP NEED REPLACING.ADD MORE COOLANT UNTIL LEVEL CORRECT.TRY LOCATE LEAK. IF CAR OVERHEATED AND BOILED IT OUT. SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD CAN ALSO BE CAUSED BY LEAKING VALVE COVERS WHICH CAN BE FIRE HAZARD IF OIL LEAKS ON HOT EXHAUST MANIFOLD.

My car started smelling funny...pulled over lifted hood and it was steaming...white smoke came from under hood and tail pipe, car would not start again. Some say it may be a head gasket? How would I know?

You can tell by looking at dip stick if the oil has a creamy white substance there is antifreeze getting in oil (blown head gasket) or if ther is excessive white smoke coming from exhaust pipe upon acceleration. steam from under hood may be a coolant leak from a rubber hose or it may be leaking from the cylinder head onto the exhaust manifold also the car will be using up antifreeze.

Coolant leak

sounds like you may have had a head gasket failure, sorry for the bad news but white smoke from tail pipe = head gasket (big job)
