Question about 1983 Oldsmobile Delta 88

1983 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Electrical problem. I AM STUMPED

I have a new battery and new alternator. About half the time I use the car my battery goes dead after about 1/2 hour of driving. I have chacked connection on alternator its good, checked connection on starter its good and checked posts on battery ...good. I have a question.
DOES THE WIRE FROM THE ALTERNATOR GO DIRECTLY TO THE STARTER OR DOES IT GO THROUGH SOME SWITCH OR RELAY OR SOMETHING THAT COULD CREATE AN OPEN CIRCUIT?
CAN I CREATE A JUMPER FROM MY ALT. DIRECTLY TO THE POS. POST OF BATTERY WITHOUT CAUSING A PROBLEM?
Thanks for your help

Have you had the alternator itself tested? Sounds to me that there maybe a problem internally. Because what you have described is a classic problem there is a bridge rectifier in the alt and it could stop charging and trip either the alt or battery light. If you were to tell me that the battery dies overnight then I would look for a draw by using a test light .

It goes thru the dash circuits. Yes! add a wire from the alternator output to the plus battery . The charge lite may be inoperative - either on or off. You might want to put a fuse in that new line.
A cheap volt-ohm-meter would help you see if the alternator is charging 14-14.8 volt and the alterantor field is being energized.

It's not too old, you can do it. You said three adapters. Is that three different ones you bought or three plugs on the car. You should be able to go to Wal-Mart and By a plug that will work.

Sometimes alternater does not charge battery

Drive the car to the auto parts store and have them test the battery and alternator for proper charge.  You probably just bought a dud, even though they are new.  Doesn't happen much but does happen.

If everything else checks out Ok in the ignition system (electrical) and if the engine and transmission turn freely, that sound like you might have starter drag.Check to see if you have good connections at the starter.I know its new but check your battery for 12 volts, good connections, ect.
