Re: car wont start
Try this. Roll down the drivers side window. Close the door and turn the key to the On position. Don't try to crank the car right now. Leave the key on for ten minutes. After ten minutes turn the key off then try to start the car. This procedure tells the computer that it is not being stolen and it will reset the security system. This should hopefully let your car start. I hope this is helpful.

If you find yourself stranded, your engine won't start, and the security light is flashing, ... The most common repair is to replace the ignition lock cylinder or Passlock ... The warning light on the VATS system is similar except it does not have the ...
Read thru this link. There is a ton of info on the SECURITY subject. First try the ten minute trick described under QUICK FIXES, if that doesnt work, you'll be looking into repairing or bypassing that system.
These cars where notorious for a failed antitheft system called passlock. When this fails your car will start for 5 seconds or less, and then stall. You should also see a light on the dash somewhere that says "security"if this is the case. Look for this light, if you see it, go to this link for help and info.
Had the same problem. Took it to local guy and he put it on the computer and found the wire running underneath the driver side floor mat had gone bad. Had to do with the security shut-off, which this wire affected. Replaced that wire, and the car has been running great ever since - happened 19 months ago.
Hi, I had the same problem with mine. It is the security feature. turn your key over to acc for 15 min. or until the security light stops blinking, then turn your key off and try to start it, it should work just fine:)
The passlock needs to be reprogrammed to the key. PASSKEY LOCKOUTRESET ALL GM CARS 1999 AND UP 1) Put the key in the ignition and turn to the "ON" position. Leave it that way for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes turn the key and take it out. Repeat this process (2) more times (3 times, 30 minutes total) This should reset the PASSKEY system to recognize your key. After the last time the vehicle should start.
It sounds like the security system has been activated so you need to roll down the drivers side window and close the door. Reach in and turn on the key to the Run position and leave in on for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes is up, turn off the key and then try to start the car. The car should start. If it doesn't start do the process over again. This usually fixes the problem. There is no way to turn off the security system unless you have a key fob. If you have the key fob, just unlock the car and that will disable the security system. I hope this has been helpful.
There is no way to disconnect the security system on your car but there
is a way to reset it. Roll down the drivers side window and close the
door. (Stay out of the car, this is why you roll down the window) Reach
in and turn the key to the On position. Don't try to start it. Leave
the key on for ten minutes. After ten minutes, reach in and turn the
key off. Then try to start the car. This usually will reset the
security system. I hope this is helpful.
