97 Saturn sl1 car stays in one gear except for park
Driving along the car wont go over 20mph,then when i stopped i found out the car wont go in any other gear except for park, then when i put it in reverse or neautral the car stays in drive possible 1st gear? As this may be the reason i cant go over 20 mph? There's no serive engine soon or any trouble codes lights that light up on the dash. I'am unable to select '97 as my choices are 91-93?

The first thing that comes to mind is the IAC idle air control. this adjusts the throttle minimum position based on block temp, transmission gear, AC on/off etc. It may be indicating "check engine" Many local parts stores will read these error codes for free. It will help diagnose the problem. There are other conditions that can cause this but start there.
That can be a mount, but you would of said it jerks at all time from park to drive and when your driving. and also reverse.Going from park to drive is there a pause and do you hear a buzz noise then a gear change. If you did that would be the solenoid. So here it is from park to drive and the RPM is in range this is known also as a harsh up shift, it is mechanical in nature the clutch pack is taking more pressure than it need to achieve a gear change. In other word your transmission is mechanically worn
I have a 97 SL2 and it has the typical slam into reverse, but also after a couple minutes of driving it downshifts... It stays there for like 3-5 minutes then runs fine afterwards... What is the problem?
