2004 Mazda3 - 135k - engine seized up with no oil but changed reg

I need a new engine for my Mazda 3 after the engine seized up due to no oil. The dealership says they have no idea why it happened just the the engine had no oil. I had the oil changed 3 weeks before problem as usual. No oil light came on except 5 mins before the car died. How can this happen? Does this happen often to others? What was the cause and who can I get to take responsibility for a new engine? Please help. Jan 1/09

I would think whoever replaced the engine oil also did not tighten the oil drain plug,,and you can bet the dealership or garage that done this,,will squirm their way out of this one if they can.
Good luck buddy!!

My sons mazda 3 did the same thing 97 days after he bought it. The dealership changed the oil and did an inspection atleast thats what they said. When he came home he had me go out and listen to this loud ticking noise and he then took it to have the oil checked and they said there wasn't any. Where did 4 or 5 quarts go? Thank You,... Medina Mazda and Volkswagon for not covering it 97 days after you sold it.

It is possible that the mechanics who worked on the mazdas neglected to use the proper tool, an oil filter wrench. which is a real common mistake that could damage the oil filter and cause a leak. i would advise anyone to get their oil changed at a certified mazda dealer and not a tire shop...

i also drive a 2004 mazda3 hatchbak and one day after warming up the car in the morning i shut it off for a few minutes then it hesitated to come back on with the oil light flashing. i beleive they just have an oil pressure issue under stress. i recommend buying a higher quality oil filter when doing an oil change, and not just using the same filter. the filter could be dirty and clogged which could block oil flow, that could lead to a ceased engine...

If oil level fine but engine seized then it could be either oil pressure low or oil not pumping around engine due to oil pump failure or engine overheated, water pump failure or radiator fans failing!

Your engine is physically ruined, most likely from a thrown rod, but could be a number of things. Time to get a rebuilt engine and hope they'll accept yours as a core. If you're knowledgeable, you can remove the engine, disassemble it, and find out what went wrong.

Seized engine

Does it have a pressure gauge or oil light, if either did not tell you there was a problem they could have malfunctioned, but it with no oil it had to have gone some where. By regular service do you mean you change the oil at a specific number of miles, but do you check it at least weekly or something within reason? A high mileage engine is going to have some wear and need to be checked more often.

Hi . Unfortunately it's a common problem with mazda6 engine. When they run low on oil the crank shaft tend to get damaged. And some times people tend to top up oil rather than changing oil between 6000 &10000kms .Yep the engine is seized cost less replacing the engine than repairing it.good luck....

turn the engine on,only, for about 2 seconds, then off,do this about 10 times then try and start the engine, then repeat this again,do this multiple times and then try to start the engine this will prime the fuel to the injectors.

Engine seized no oil did not get check oil or check engine light

The oil pressure warning light only comes on when oil pressure drops below 4psi at this moment there is no oil in the engine most often it does not get to this point because oil, water etc is checked every week. It could be your engine was using oil which would point to an engine fault.

Seized engine-1998 Pathfinder

This is 100% possible - you are going to need a new engine - once an engine siezes there is no way to bring it back without extensive machine work, to help you understand what happened there was a lack of oil somewhere in your engine and basically what happens is those pieces heat up and weld themselves to each other (thermal welding) this usually happens on cars when the oil has been neglected and or on higher mileage cars when the oil pump is not pumping enough oil to the engine - once this happens it is cheaper to buy a new engine than to repair it.

The more likely symptom for white smoke from exhaust is piston rings are worn out . Due to this there might be oil leakage and engine oil which is meant for engine lubrication might have entered the combustion chamber. Burning of engine oil produces white smoke. You should quickly change the piston rings as if you ignore this problem this can cause engine mal-functioning
