Re: how to put a new starter on 1990 Trooper
Changing starter is time consuming.on v6 motor you have to remove the exhaust pipe to make access MUCH easier. with engine cold soak exhaust bolts with wd40 or similar penatrating oil at least a hour before taking apart also try not to damage gaskets on exhaust pipe.job will take at least 3-4 hours. good luck .disconnect battery 1st. negative is always off 1st & on last

code 12 is the hand shake code on most troopers. will be repeated three times. then each code will repeat its self three times. when all codes are flashed it will return to the 12 code. reference 1990 Isuzu trooper
I recommend you get the Haynes repair manual on your vehicle. Start by removing the negative battery terminal, then removing the retaining bolts from the starter followed by removing the wires from the starter. Reverse the process to put the new starter on.
I would go to www. my isuzu parts.com and view their index. It takes a little getting used to but you can find oiut where a lot of stuff goes and how it connects. Other than that go to a library and try to view a Haynes,Chilton or Mitchell maintenance manual for more specific stuff. If you go to my isuzu parts besure to notice the tabs at the top of each diagram --they will tell you if the diagram is for a 4 cyl, a deisel or the v6. good luck
