Bravada truck ignition key will not turn truck off while in park

I have a bravada truck.  When I put it in park, I am not able to turn the ignition all the way to turn the truck off.  I have to keep turning the car completely back on and off, or moving the car from drive to reverse, etc. and then try again, until I can turn the key completely to turn the truck off>?

Check the wires connected to hte shift interlock switch in the center console. They are probably broken just where they enter the connector. In order to turn the car off remove the plasict plug on the steering column shroud located just below the ignition switch. Pry it out with a small knife point or screwdriver and insert the end of a suitable tool in to release the soleniod. Turn the key while pushing up on the tool. I had the same issue with my Bravada.

Your problem is with the shift interlock solenoid. Have it replaced. It is in the center console if it is a console shift vehicle. If column shift it is located on the lower right side of the column. Common problem for this vehicle.

I put my car in park and tried to turn off the ignition. When I did this it would not turn completely to the off position and now I am getting no power at all. what could cause this problem?

Need to replace the ignition switch. I believe Bravada's have the same steering columns as Envoys and Trailblazer (everything else is the same). If so, below the key, you'll either see a hole or an outline of a hole in the plastic. There you can push the solenoid in to release the key. If the hole is not there, cut or drill out the outline of the hole. Replace the ignition switch, not the key switch that the key goes into.

Key won't come out of 2000 bravada

This is a floor shift? Have you noticed the transmission sticking in third? Do you feel you have the ability to take the shifter apart? It's a problem with the shift interlock solenoid. If the transmission is sticking in 3rd also it is a power supply to the solenoid from it ignition switch. If the transmission works fine I can tell you how to fix it or bypass it.

1996 Bravada wont start (no response to key turn) and key stuck

battery is dead, battery cables are loose, or your vehicle is not in park all the way. Put it into neutral and try to start it there.

2000 Olds Bravada ignition

Okay .. had the EXACT same problem - word for word .. turns out, that my positive battery cable was corrodid badly.. the ignition switch wasnt getting any power or signal - so it didnt know the trans was in park, so it locked the key in place... and all power cut off obviously because no juice was going thru the cable.
Apparently however.. you will get almost the exact same symptoms if the ignition switch burns out... so first test the battery cables themselves.. if they are fine .. then plan on replacing the ignition switch.
