Question about 2002 Dodge Intrepid

1 Answer

3 times over the past 2 weeks my Dodge uitrepid 2002 did not start at all, not one noise. As if the battery was completely dead. I inally openned he hood loked ver connection to the battery. I just wiggled the battery conection slightly. I shot the hood and when I triedto start the car, it started right up. The weather has been colder than usual, about 20 degrees. I did a lot of starting and stopping over the past 2 weeks and it only happened tese 3 times.

Have the fuel system pressure checked especially after you start and stop the engine. If the system loses pressure immediately, you have a problem with loss of residual pressure caused by a check valve or equivalent.

It could very well be a defective battery, you could have 1 or more bad cells in the battery. A voltage regulator or an alternator. If it isn't one of those then there is something drawing power from somewhere that is causing it to go dead.

the dome light is draining the batt.
pull neg batt cable off when truck is running to see if the alternator is working correctly. check that glove box, hood,trunk/cargo light is shutting off when they should be.

2002 Dodge Stratus, Start Problem/ Electrical?

First thing I would do, is remove, clean, inspect & tighten all battery connections including & especially the other end of my negative connection. Also any connections to a power distribution box, that is usually found near the battery. In your explanation, you say when it does start, everything works normal, does that include radio & clock?

Try checking relays in the fuse box under the hood. If all checks out ok, check timing belt/chain.
