There are several tabs which hold the glass to the plastic surround. In the center of those clips there is a square cut-out. With the right pressure you can flatten out these clips with a screwdriver to relieve the tension holding the two pieces together. together. Be careful when you install the new lens making sure to use a new seal and to seat it properly. It is easiest to put the clips back on starting with the top with one then one on the bottom. Then go all the way around.

I had a similar problem on my S80 1999 2.9 . It turned out to be the SMS multifunction module in the steering column that had gone bad. I eventually had to have it replaced plus a software reload. It was expensive. Suggestions that did not work were to disconnect the battery, charge the battery, reload software . It was only after the unit was changed that the software was loaded at a cost
