First check the battery to make sure it has a full charge and then check the solenoid cause if there is fire coming from the solenoid to the starter have the starter tested. if the car will take a jump before you do all of this take the positive side of the battery off and if the car dies its your alternator

Sounds like maybe the starter's has gone bad, that would explaine the grinding but not the hazards

Lights turn on when car is off, wont engage when started and hazard lights are flashing really fast. had to unhook battery, 03 windstar, any advice

All the thing's your having problems with are computer controlled .The main light switch is a low voltage device , controlled by the instrument cluster . The instrument cluster is connected to the vehicle control moduel system via the SCP - standard corporate protocol , messages are put out on the data network to other modules to control lighting ! The (REM) rear electronic module an the (FEM) front electronic module .

You could look for a loose connection (ground ) But your best bet take it to a qualified repair shop (ford )

My van did the same thing, on a busy highway. Even hazards wouldn't work. One of the battery posts were loose. Tightened it up, no more problem.

When I start my 2005 Chevy Tahoe LT there is a grinding sound and it won't start, so I turn the key back and stop, wait and then the next time I turn the key it starts just fine. It has done this 3...

Sounds like you are having a problem with the starting motor. When activated, it throws out a gear to engage with the flywheel on the end of the engine. If there is not enough energy to fully engage the gear, or the gear does not engage properly due to misalignment, you may hear a grinding noise. Have the starting motor serviced or replaced.

Won't turn over

your starter is shot most likely. the noise is the drive gear at the end of the starter not throwing far enough onto the flywheel. Dont keep starting like this as a new flywheeel will be v expensive if damaged! Have your battery checked out too as a limp battery will not produce the power that the solenoid needs to throw that gear out properly and a new starter will fail too.
Pls rate me if this helps.
