Re: 2002 buick regal LS
First... stop starting the car up until it is fixed. second check your engine oil to make sure nothing was added to it that will damage the motor... it sounds more like your car was vandalized then a crook stole parts from it. go back and ask the mechanic to write down the name of the part and also examine under the hood near looking for any wiring that is unplugged. only thing i can think of close to that would be a purge valve.

Oil. if the smoke is coming from between the engine block and the firewall then its probably oil on the exhaust manifold. Make sure that your engine is not leaking oil from the seals and make sure the oil cap and dipstick are in place, start your car, with the hood up and observe the smoke if its bad then id take it to a mechanic but if its only mild then providing your engine isn't leaking oil it should burn off within a few minutes of the engine being started, i say watch the smoke because if it is leaking oil onto the exhaust in great amounts then it is possible it could catch fire.

could be anything, you will at least need a shop or at the least ottozone to read the code for you, once you have a code you can ask more questions here and we can maybe steer you right. then you will know what direction to start looking at. At the worst, I would take it to a qualified repair shop, keep away from any type of chain store.
