Mechanic wants to charge me $350 (parts + labor) for power steering pump replacement. I'm capable of doing this myself, but I'm intimidated by the compactness of the engine compartment. Can someone provide pointers on how to remove the PS pump? Any pictures would be awesome! Thanks!

you need to have a pulley puller to get the pulley off if you don't have one most auto zone part stores have a loan a tool program and they can help you with that on most powersteering pumps the high pressure line will be a fitting or bolt on and the return line is usually just a squeeze clamp hope this helps good luck

You should have also lost your power steering because the steering is variable assist based on vehicle speed as well as your cruise control. Your electronic brake control traction module (EBCTM) is gone on the ABS module; very common catera problem and guaranteed to be your problem. It is mounted on the anti lock brake pump (aluminum block) where all the brake lines convene, left side of engine (right side from the front), behind and below the battery. It has two harnesses connected to it (make sure you remove the clips and retainers to release the connectors without breaking them) and 5 torx screws holding it in. You will need a varied tool small kit and torx drivers, tips, extensions, drivers whatever will get you to the party and let you take it out. There are 5 screws, you need to find them all and don't force it. Make sure all 5 are removed, they are all the same and have torx heads, I think an M6 torx driver if I remember correctly . You will also need a magnet to pick up the screws and tips you drop down the area. I took the rad hose off and the battery out to access it. Don't remove the ABS pump! The module is a pain to get in and out. There are places in the US that will send you a rebuilt one or rebuild yours with a full warranty for about $150 turnaround is fairly quick and this module fixes all your problems. I bought one from a wrecker for 25 and has been fine ever since. TC ABS light went off, power steering returned, speedo /odometer came back, ABS working fine and cruise is perfect again. To make your life easier and not have to get the computer to relearn from disconnecting the battery, I fed the car battery power through the cigarette lighter to maintain radio, computer settings before I disconnected the battery. Minimizes the work after you are done or you will have do the idle position relearn and so on. Let me know how you make out and I can be of any more help.
SOURCE: GETING CODES po452 & po301
You can get additional information from: Depending on your car model, year, and engine, The P0301 code could be a bad plug, wire, coil, or vacuum leak. The P0452 Evap system codes can be very difficult to diagnose. If you re-ask the question with the specific car info, maybe someone can tell you which parts are most likely to be bad.
