My 1993 Toyota pickup (v6) has a temp problem. It seems to warm up good (good cab heat) but the temp gauge does not go up very much. Then when I drive it, it does not shift to 4th gear until it gets driven for some time. It looses some temp (looking at the gauge) and down shifts back to 3rd until the temp comes back some! Is there a tranny temp sensor? If so, where is it located? Or is it the engine temp sensor? (location)? I also have the speedo (not working) problem now! thanks. Paul.
The trans will not allow overdrive until coolant reaches roughly 180 degrees, if the guage shows cool and the trans is not upshifting, or downshifts to third while driving. the problem is either a sticking (or missing) thermostat. follow the lower radiator hose to the engine and find the three 12mm nuts, remove these to get to it. a new toyota t-stat will have a little bleed valve on its face. position it upwards when installing. hope this is helpful.
P.S. Happy New Year
