My blazer will be running fine while driving and then all of a sudden it just dies. I might be able to start it again and I might not. I have replaced the plug/coil wires, distributor cap, and the rotor cap. I thought that might fix it as the caps were corroded really bad. But a couple of days later. It started the same thing again. I can put the key in and turn the truck on and I can hear the fuel pump coming on for a couple of seconds and then it stops - this is why I ruled out the fuel pump and changed the wires and caps. But once again. It still cuts off. I am afraid it will stop in the middle of traffic somewhere and get me killed.

Check the magnets on the distributor. Mine did all these symptoms and turned out the magnets had depolarized. Replace them or at least check for magnetic pull. Wierd but true.

It might be the crank shaft position sensor. if the sensor doesn't see the engine turning over it will not let the fuel pump on. This happened on are our 93 Buick changed the sensor it ran like a new car.

Look for a missing ground strap from the engine to the body or frame. Remember the engine sits on rubber mounts so that ground strap is essential.

1985 chevy blazer s10, replaced mechanical fuel pump, still not gettin fuel to carberator

I have a 1984 S-10 Blazer since it was new
almost 29 years ago

Explain how a new fuel pump doesn't work

I only had that once on my 1965 corvette
A new pump had been assembled with the
diaphragm outside on a couple holes,a quick fix

You must have fuel to the carb & thus you need
to take the carb apart & work on that

So far I found that NAPA is the only source for
a carb kit

Its in side the gas tank On the top of it You have to drop the tank to replace it Make sure it;s the pump first because its not easy to do And you probley will need other parts in addition to the pump to repair this TANK STRAPS FUEL LINES AND THE TANK IT SELF MAY NEED REPAIRS DO TO HOLES RUSTED IN THE TOP OF IT

Have 93 chevy s10, stopped and started just fine

the other wire that is "dead" is the ground wire for the fuel pump. try cutting that wire after the connector towards the pump, and running it to a good clean ground.

Help

Sounds like it needs a new fuel pump. Get a Fuel Pressure Gauge and check it make sure it up to the Specs,What I think is about 35 to 40 psi without looking in my book. Also you would want to make sure the fuel filter was changed, Your getting spark and fuel, But You stated your able to start it with starting fluid so I would say it must be a fuel pump problem.. I hope that help you out. If not get back to me and we can try some more trouble shooting. Take Care, Bear
