1998 GMC 1500 4x4 4.3L ABS brake problems

When coming to a slow stop and applying the brakes, the ABS seems to kick in just before I stop. If you are moving and slam the brakes on in dry or slippery conditions they seem to work fine. The only time they act up is when you are almost at a stop. The peddle pulsates and feels like the ABS kicks in.The brakes are in good shape ( rotors ,pads, shoes drums ) the lines are good and full of fluid. The ABS light is not coming on. Please advise!! Thanks!!

I have the same problem as well, it has almost got me in a few wrecks, i replaced the pads, calipers, shoes, everything and it still does it, i can not figure it out but i think these trucks have a faulty ABS system

Or you could just pull the fuse for the abs and not have abs but you won't wreck from pulsating pedal.

I have a 1998 Sierra and had the same problem. Had to replace the ABS sensors. Cost about $1000(canadian).

Make sure you're not using cheap fluid. The last place you want to cheat your truck is when it comes to your brakes.

Or

Drain or **** the brake fluid out and replace with the best in the market at your local automotives store.

ABS brakes not working

If you can feel the pedal pulsating and the light turns on the Abs is doin its job. if you want a better stop you could try a brake pad upgrade to ceramic pads and for even more stoping power add an after market drilled and sloted rotors.

I can't remember the exact names of the GM products that wer recalled for ABS brake malfunctions, google the make, name, and year of your car with the phrase recalls..you'll get several lists that will tell you if your vehicle was recalled or a service bulleting was issued for that problem.

Hope this helps
