Daughters jimmy turns over but won't start

Recently purchased jimmy. vehicle had been well maintained but does have a bit over 100K on the speedo. it was running good, fair mileage with no reason to suspect a problem, but then! when she came out of a store here in michigan mid 20's temp. it turned over but had no sign of starting. it sounded like there was no spark, just turning. has gas but the fuel gauge had quit working recently. any ideas?
thanks john

Listen very close, when the key is turned to run you should be able to hear the fuel pump run for 3 seconds or so ,also every time you "bump" the starter the pump should run for 3 seconds again..
Fuel gauge is wired with the pump power. May be easier if someone listens at the fuel inlet with the gas cap off.(takes 2 people)

if battery and alternator are new. I would check the starter, and the starter relay, then the ignition switch.if you will be keeping this vehicle for a long time, I would purchase the service manual for your vehicle from Amazon as it has step by step instructions and pictures to perform any repair and or maintenance that is required for your vehicle.

2000 gmc jimmy starts in AM fine won't start after sitting in sun all day

Can you jumper the fuel pump and make it start and continue to run ?
Have you checked to see if you are getting spark when it won't start ?
Could be a relay or coil, ignition module, or other component.

MAINTENANCE LIGHT IS ON AT 60000 MILES. WHAT MIGHT BE THE PROBLEM<

The light is telling you that it is time to perform regular maintainance on the vehicle. If it is not reset even after an oil change, after 10,000 miles it will stay on after the vehicle is started and remain on until it is reset. I would suggest getting any required maintainence done on the vehicle but you can reset the light yourself if you want. The way to do it is turn the ignition switch to the off position, engine not running. Push and hold the select/reset button to the right of the speedo in the instrument cluster (see arrow in picture below) and hold. While keeping pressed in, turn the key to the "on" position (not starting the car). Remain holding the button down for about ten seconds or until the light goes off. That should reset the maintanence required light for you and gives you 10,000 mile more until it does it again. I hope this helps and good luck.

I have a 1998 GMC Jimmy. Cranks, but won`t start. Fuel is full. Engine stopped while driving. Battery light came on. Any suggestions?

the battery indicator light usually comes on after a lose of power. Sounds to me like either bad gas, clogged fuel filter or a bad fuel pump. Easiest way to check this is have someone turn the key while you stand at rear side of vehicle and listen for the whinning noise a functioning fuel pump makes as it pressurizes the system.

P.S you dont have to start vehicle to check pump. only requires turning the key to the on position. Good Luck

Do jeep V8 engines last beyond 100k miles?

V8 engine,on the norm, will last a good long time,if they have been taken care of,and continue being maintained.Highway miles of course are always a plus, when asking about the vehicle,if the truth be told, but look, listen, and drive is the best way to be sure of what you are buying, the ignition switch is a good place to observe, the lock, and key cylinder,is it worn>is the key worn?the wrighting on the key,and it`s trademarks, are they still there,or worn off,and how bad? This will tell you if it was a start and go vehicle,or not, could be a vehicle that was drove long distances instead of short stop and go .
