My 5 speed pontaic sunfire would not go in gear the engine just races up the car dose not move

tell what it does in drive. (selector)
how fast in drive,? MPH 5 ,10 ,20? what?
is the throttle pedal dead. RPM cannot be raised right foot in drive.?
or yuou race fast the engine, right foot but speed does not increase?
or speed does increase fast and RPM fast but transmission fails to go to 2nd gear.?
scan the car is step one,
is check engine lamp on ,? idle or moving

If the engine races and no pick up. Yes replace the clutch package.

3 speed transmission or 4 speed does it shift at all or dose it race the engine and shift hard

Did you check oil level and if correct is it the correct type of oil?

When your engine is cooled and no pressure on the cooling system Follow your top rad.hose to the top of your engine what that hose connects to is called the thermostat hosing ,it sits in the grooves under the housing

Check and make sure the injector's O-ring's did not get damage or fall out while installing injector's.

Are you reset the other store codes after to new O2 replace?

There were two different automatic transmissions in the Sunfire that year,the 3 speed trans designated the 3T40,and the 4 speed trans designated the 4T40.If your car has the 4 speed trans,there will be a circle around the "D" on your gear selector indicator.The 3 speed trans will not have a circle around the "D".The 3 speed trans works off of a cable called the TV or Throttle Valve cable.This cable should be checked where it engages the throttle body around the area where the throttle cable attaches to the throttle body,on the engine.If the cable becomes disconnected for whatever reason,the trans will not shift out of 1st gear in most cases.If the car has the 4 speed trans,this model trans is totally electronic,and the vehicle should have the codes pulled out.For every trouble code,there is a diagnostic route to follow to repair the malfunction.
