Question about 1994 Volvo 940

Headlamp failure 940 1991

I have a 940 non turbo the problem is with the headlights , the side lights and running lights work ok but when i switch to headlights all the lights go out , all fuses are ok and i have replaced the light switch and the failure relay , they work ok from the flasher on the steering wheel stalk also the earths on the wings are clean also . would appreciate any help thanks.

    I have a 1994 volvo 940 turbo,I can only get the park lamps ,no headlights high or low .However when I use the turn signal lever i get the high beam. I got a relay from the junk yard with a big "K" marked on it ,simular to the one that was in it.Im wondering, " if the relay came from a 850 or 740 will it still work?" and what could be the problem? I bought a new switch.

Hi,
Usually faults such as this centre around the stalk switch. It sounds as if one of the connections between the stalk and the relay are broken.
This may be a supply to the stalk switch, or more likely the return to the relay.
Check the switched supply to the relay first in the on position with a volt meter. It is usually a bad contact.

99 GMC Sierra headlights & running lights won't work!


Headlights Circuit Description
The headlights are controlled by the body control module (BCM) via the AHL Relay when the headlamp and panel dimmer switch is the AUTO position. When in the AUTO mode, the BCM receives a signal, (voltage) from the ambient light sensor, based on the voltage of the signal of n the sensor the BCM turns the day time running lamp (DRL) lights OFF and the headlights ON. The headlights can also be turned on by placing the headlamp and panel dimmer switch in the head position.
The relay coil is fed by the headlamp and panel dimmer switch or the BCM and the battery B+ buss bar in the underhood bussed electrical center (UBEC). The BCM supplies current to the relay based on the input from the ambient light sensor via CKT 352.
The relay output feeds the LT HDLP and RT HDLP fuses to supply current to the low and high beam lamps on CKT 1340 and CKT 1240. The ground for both the low and high beam lamps is supplied via CKT 524 and CKT 525 to the dimmer switch. The dimmer switch uses CKT 1850 for a ground to G203.
Some circuits are monitored by the BCM, and upon failure may set a DTC.
Park/Side Marker and Tail Lamps
The park/side marker and tail lamps are split between the following 4 fuses:

These fuses receive voltage from the park lamp relay. When the headlamp and panel dimmer switch is in the auto position, the body control module (BCM) controls the relay by grounding CKT 1080 based on the input of the ambient light sensor. The park LPS fuse supplies battery positive voltage (B+) to the relay at all times.
When the headlamp and panel dimmer switch is in the PARK position, the relay is by passed through the INT PRK fuse. Current flows from the PARK LPS fuse through the headlamp and panel dimmer switch to the INT PRK fuse in order to feed the following fuses:

Replace the turn signal switch. All the exterior lights except the high mount brake light run thru it.

I recently had some front drivers side damage to my car. The head light was smashed and the wheel well pushed in far enough that it occasionally rubs against the wheel when I make right turns. I've managed...

The rear running lights aren't on the same circuit as the headlight(s). To get the car legal for
night driving, replace the broken headlight (both need to work to drive legally at night),
and tackle the running lights as a separate project.
First thing to check on the running lights - the bulbs. Why: incandescent light bulbs that are
on at the time of an impact cannot withstand the impact and the filaments can fail, so fixing
your rear running lights may simply be a matter of replacing the two light bulbs.
If the bulbs are ok, your accident has caused a wiring fault, which you will locate
between the ignition switch and the rear running lights.

  1. Remove the headlamp trim panel attaching screws.

  1. Remove the headlamp bulb retaining screws. Do not touch the two headlamp aiming screws, (at the top and side of the retaining ring), or the headlamp aim will have to be readjusted.

  1. Using a screwdriver, remove the retaining ring screws.

  1. Pull the bulb and ring forward then separate them. Unplug the electrical connector from the rear of the bulb.

To install:

  1. Plug the new bulb into the electrical connector.
  2. Install the bulb into the retaining ring and install the ring and bulb.
  3. Install the trim panel.
Replacing the European style headlights is a slightly different procedure.

Ford expedition yr'00 headlight not working checked fuses..


The low beam headlamps have a seperate fuse for each lamp in the central or underdash fuse panel.
The right headlamp is fuse fuse 26 (10amp) and the left is fuse 28 (10 amp). These fuse are hot only when headlamps are on so you need to test them with a test light with headlamps on. If they do not have power to them then concern is either headlamp switch or daytime running lamp relay if your vehicle is equipped with this feature, or a bad multifunction switch.
Power leaves the headlamp switch on the RD/YE wire and goes to multifunction switch. It leaves multifunction switch on the other RD/YE wire The wire will then go thru either a connector c2003 located behind the passenger side air bag behind the dash or to the DRL relay if your vehicle has this feature and leaves there on RD/BK wire to the headlights .

Headlights alternate on and off left and right daytime/high beam


although the underhood relay panel is common, I'd check your headlamp bulbs first, these are cheaper than the fuse box. The daytime running lights work off the high beam circuit, thus, a blown highbeam bulb could be the culprit, the fusebox solution was more common on 2001 and up modles, although it's a definite possibility.

Daytime running lights


check the headlamp relays in the fuse/relay box under the hood. There is one box in front of the battery and another one under the hood by the passeger side of engine comparment by fender. I believe the box cover will show what relays are in the box. Left & right have separate relays. Swap left & right headlapm relays and see if problem switches to other headlamp. If yes repalce bad relay.
Not likely DRL module.
Otherwise, need to check ground wire for this headlamp.
