Question about 1988 Ford F 150

1 Answer

Hello was driving home tonight and stopped by fueling station let truck run because it is negative -40 below got going and engine quit. I has done it before and it was the clasp that holds fuel line to fuel filter (under drivers cab side). checked that, that was fine. i just had the truck serviced here in Alaska and they said that i had a small leak at the plenum. nothing to worry about. after i got the truck back it seemed that the check engine light was fluttering on/ off now that it is broke off the road and the keys are out of ignition the light is still on. I'm stumped!

Well first off disconnect the battery so you don't kill it.. Sounds like an electrical problem.. Get the chiltons manual and they have a diagnostic section. It's pretty cheap for that truck and it covers everything...you can get one here

Good Luck..hope that helps..let us know.

You overfilled the tank and screwed up the fuel vent canister. Usually the car will not run, dies while idling, or surges if you try to drive, also if you try to fill up again you might find it difficult to fill your tank fast because the canister is not venting the tank

Ask your local technician to set up a fuel gauge pressure monitor so you can track it while your driving. Ask him what the normal range is so you will know when it falls below. Document it and let your Tech know. It sounds like your fuel pump is loosing Pressure.

The engine on my 2000 MPV cuts out and dies when I press the accelerator. After it sits for an hour or so, I can travel for 20 min. or so before the problem starts again. HELP!

if its been a while change the fuel filter and then have the fuel pressure and volume checked.these symptoms are very common for a fuel pump problem.

Engine quit when stopped at stop light. Acted as if it was choking then died. Tried restarting. Turns over strong, no start. Thought maybe no gas. Added gas after about 30 minutes. Started first try....

Sounds like the fuel pump is going out. Replace the filter first, as it's only $10. If that doesn't fix it, then it's probably the pump, which is $250.

Hyundai coupe excessive fuel consumption

Unless the Check Engine Light is ON, there is no vehicle-related issue to fuel consumption. The computer will deliver the exact amount of fuel needed to satisfy the demands placed on the engine, using input from a large variety of sensors, including the accelerator pedal position sensor. Fuel economy estimates in the USA are just that, estimates, derived from a chemical analysis of emissions, and not actual driving. And no vehicle ever hits those numbers.

There are numerous outside factors that have a negative impact on fuel economy:
Vehicle maintenance, driving conditions (stop & go driving KILLS fuel economy), accelerator pedal usage, overall vehicle speeds, loads carried, etc.

Remember, the more you use the gas pedal, the more you use the gas station!
