Question about 1998 Jeep Cherokee

95 jeep cherokee laredo

Are there any issues with the 95 laredo at about 170000 miles. I am thinking about buying one that is in really good shape body wise, but my son said something about the 4X4 package. What can you tell me?

When buying a 2nd hand vehicle always be very careful of the vehicles condition.

It is a very wise idea to ask the seller if you can have the vehicle for a short time, and schedule an appointment at a garage that you trust.

Tell the service writter that you are thinking about bying the vehicle, and would like them to do an inspection...normally inspections will consist of compression testing in the cylinders to determine if there is any ring damage, or other problems.

You do have the option of asking to speak with the previous owner, if you're buying the vehicle from a dealer...most, but not all previous owners will tell you the truth about the vehicles upkeep, and any problems they had, or have.

Depending on how the previous owner/s used, and maintained the vehicle will determine if the vehicle is worth the money.

REMEMBER this point when you shop for a vehicle.........if there is something wrong with the vehicle, or you can't speak to the previous owner, or the seller won't let your mechanic inspect the vehicle..there is always another vehicle down the road patiently waiting for you.

The money you spend having your mechanic inspect the the vehicle is well worth it...it sure beats sitting on the side of the road waiting for a tow ttruck..

Hopefully this will help your buying decision.

I'm looking at buying a 95 jeep grand cherokee. its an auto, 5.2, has 140,000 miles on it and in very good shape. my question is that when i test drove it today, and shifted from park to drive, it took...

Likely the transmission is a bit worn and it's taking time to build enough pressure to actually drive the internal clutches together enough to make it go. If it was yours, I'd suggest that you try changing the fluid and filter and putting in some lucas additive for transmissions. But, since you are buying it, I'd recommend that you not do that unless the price is incredibly low, everything else is in really good condition and you keep in mind that it probably will be due for a trans rebuild in the near future!
On a 95, that may be more costly than the book value of the vehicle itself!!

Sounds like a bad battery to me. Turns over really slowly? Also, be sure to check your oil, this is extremely important!

2000 jeep gc laredo 4x4 4.7 auto The front end shakes

if it shakes over 50 miles per hour, it could be your front tires need balancing. and check your ball joints while you are at it. or king pins if it has that. (they are different from ball joints but serve the same purpose.)

My 95 grand cherokee starts fine but isnt charging

Pretty sure the regulator on those is in the computer (I know...really dumb...) There is a way to wire around it using an older style regulator but it will keep the check engine light on and may not pass inspection like that.

All wheel drive v8 issues 96 Jeep Grnd Cherokee Ltd

Any all wheel drive will give less fuel miles.(compared to ones you engage as needed) The Chrysler v8 is a time proven engine, pretty much a copycat of a chevy with some changes to make it their own. Overall, I haven't heard any really bad stuff about them. If you look at the problems on this site, there seem to be fewer jeep probs than all other vehicles. (even though some problems are really weird!!!)
What you really need to see is the vehicles history to make sure it's been maintained and has not been back to a shop for the same thing over and over.
Good luck!
