Perhaps the fuel pump is nice enough to give you a warning before it stops completely. Its located inside the fuel tank.

A 2006 Chevy 1500 series truck will crank but wont run

Can't be done online. You need experienced help to go through crank position sender, cam position sender, various relays, fuses etc. Can you hear the fuel pump running? It will only run when cranking and running , it won't run with just key on to prevent fire in accident.

Starts but wont run

Some automobiles have a resistor in the coil circuit to reduce the voltage when the car is running. GM put it inside the starter solonoid for earlier cars. Chrysler put it on the firewall. When it goes bad the engine will start running when you crank it but it will die as soon as you release the key from the start position.

My dodge stratus wont start it will turn over but wont start

Listen for the fuel pump when you first turn on the key to the run position. If you hear it then spray a small amount of starting fluid in air intake while someone tries to start it if the engine fires then most likely a Crank Position Sensor. The CPS controls your injectors.

Could be the float is stuck. try spraying a little starting fluid in the carb and crank it over and see if it trys to run.

The first step is to narrow down the cause of the no-start.

Let's go over the process of starting the car, so you have a better understanding of what is going on when you turn the key:

The first step is to narrow down the cause of the no-start.

Let's go over the process of starting the car, so you have a better understanding of what is going on when you turn the key:

Here is what happens on a properly running car:

  • You sit behind the wheel and insert the ignition key into the switch.

  • You then turn the key to the spring loaded start position. When you do that, the ignition switch engages the starter by connecting the battery to the electric starter motor which, in turn cranks the engine over. This can be easily heard and is referred to as cranking the engine over.

  • The next thing you will hear is the engine running, which is your signal to release the key.

  • At that point, the engine is running and you are ready to place the transmission selector in Drive and be on your way.

1997 neon wont start it was running fine , i killed it and since then it will not start. its getting fuel. no fire

Your crank position sensor is bad. Check it for voltage with the key in the on position. If the crank sensor is not working the car will not start.

Vehicle cranks but wont start has good fire but no fuel pressure theft light is flashing car has not run in over a year ? what do i do to get the theft light to go out?

Turn ignition to run not start, count to 5,turn off key. Repeat this three times. Try to start vehicle. If its starts you are done. If not you will need to repeat turn ignition on count to 5 then turn off, 3 more times On the fourth time leave key in the run position for 10 minutes. Then turn key off & start vehicle.

Vehicle Won't Start

The solution to this problem was simple, embarrasing and frustrating. The dome light was left on, and discharged the battery....enough to prevent the ignition from firing apparently. I did not suspect this, because the starter would turn the engine over very well, for a long time, and would do this repeatedly. In all my experience, I have never seen an engine spin that well and not start. According to the dealer, the voltage was too low for the ignition to work. While I do not know the exact threshhold where the voltage is too low to crank, I could have detected the condition by checking the voltage at the battery while cranking. It should have been significantly below 12 volts, indicating a low battery. The tow truck driver who picked it up simply used a portable battery to jump it off and cranked it with no problem. The symptom of the starter continuing to run after releasing the key is new technology with computerized controls, and is normal nowdays. You don't really notice this because the engine usually fires so quickly that it is undetectable.
