1986 Toyota pickup, Hilux fuel pump

I have a 1986 Toyota pickup, Hilux truck. When I pump the gas petal no gas gets to the carburetor or I have to pump forever or prime the carb. Is the problem the fuel pump?

    darn, I was hoping it was the fuel pump, so I wouldn't have to replace the carb. Way more expensive. It is probably the accelerator pump because when I push the choke? on the top of the carb it doesn't accelerate there either. Of course this is all guess work on my part, but it makes sense. Thank you so much for the tips and getting back to me. Have a great New Year. What does carb draining down mean?

    I did change the carb and it was old, but the throttle cable was worn out and so was the spring. It's fine now. Thanks for your help.

    How often should the fuel filter be changed. My hilux has a service every 10000 kms and the dealer has never changed it and says it is not on the service schedule.
    Please give me the proper answer

NO the problem most likely is your carb. draining down or accelerator pump not working.

My 1984 toyota pickup will not idle it will run

could be several things, sounds like either your carb, is bad or needs rebuilt. Or you may have some bad vacuum lines, I would check the one going to the distributor first

Hi there. i have a 1986 toyota hilux 3.0l turbo(knocking)

I have a Toyota Hilux 3.0 KZ-TE fitted with a intercooler and on Saterday on a 4x4 outing the engine light on the dashboard came on and the motor started spluttering and excessive white smoke came out of the exhaust. The problem persisted for several minutes and then went away. The verdict from other 4x4 owners was that the turbo needs an overall, I cannot understand this as it is fine again with no mechanical interferance.

1986 Toyota 4X4 22r Engine

Hello;
It sounds as if you have a couple of possible problems. First could be the fuel pump. If yoou disconnect the fuel line, put the line in a jar and crank the engine over, you should get a pint in 15 seconds or so. Also check the pressure, should have around 5 psi. Secondly, you may have a vacuum hose cracked, broken, or leaking. Check your hoses and also the carbureator for leaks.
Hope this helps;
Thanks;
