I need to do the same thing, on my 1998 Malibu. How did you accomplish this, please?

  • ctchallen Jan 13, 2009

    CCPikie,

Open the hood and you will see a plastic flap on top of the headlight assembly. It is held on by a couple plastic clips (they look like bolt heads) that pop into place. I removed the one towards the center of the car and swung it away to expose the headlight asembly. There are two tabs (just big enough to get your finger under) that you pull up on to disengage the assembly. You only have to pul up about 1/2" inch for this to happen. The rest is self explanitory. I did some damage to the plastic clip removing it. Ask around before removing it.

It is a pretty easy replacement. For the black tabs, it is a two-piece fastener, just pull up on the small center post, it will release the expanding part below the plate. I broke one of them before realizing this. Also be careful when you put the new headlamp in, mine was misaligned and angled way too high. Had to put something behind it to get it angled properly.

Trial and error. now that I have done it once, I can see it is truly a great design for ease of repair. The advise I saw on the web was from a bunch of numnuts. They were not even close to helping out.

If you look in the front of the engine, it is the the pulley nearest the radiator, top. It is held on by 5 bolts to the engine block. If you need step by step instructions, please feel free to email me at iambanshee74@yahoo.com and I will get those right to you. Please include the engine size.

Cobalt 2005 ls headlight bulb replacement

Instructions Things You'll Need:
  • 9007 LL halogen headlight bulb
  • Wrench
  • Gloves or clean rag
  1. Step 1 Set the parking brake and remove the keys from the ignition to ensure your Chevy Cobalt won't roll while you're replacing the headlight bulb.
  2. Step 2 Open the hood by pulling the hood release latch located under the instrument panel on the driver's side of the car. Locate the secondary release latch on the front of the hood at the center, slightly towards the driver's side. Slide the latch to the left to release the hood and raise it.
  3. Step 3 Locate the headlight assembly and remove the bolts by turning them counterclockwise. Set the bolts aside in a safe place, so you won't misplace them.
  4. Step 4 Remove the plastic fasteners from the headlight assembly molding. Carefully pull back the front fascia, or molding. You may need an extra pair of hands to perform this slightly awkward task.
  5. Step 5 Grab the headlight assembly and pull it towards the radiator at a slight angle to remove it. This should provide easier access to the headlight bulb and wiring harness.
  6. Step 6 Lift the plastic locking tab on the wiring harness to disconnect the bulb base. Then, disconnect the wiring harness from the bulb socket and remove the black retainer by turning it counterclockwise.
  7. Step 7 Disconnect the bulb socket by turning it counterclockwise. Remove the old bulb from the socket by firmly, but gently pulling it straight out.
  8. Step 8 Replace the old bulb with a new 9007 LL halogen headlight bulb. Put your headlight assembly back together by reversing the steps when you disassembled it. Use 89 inch-lb torque when retightening the headlight assembly

How to replace valve cover gasket 1998 chevy malibu

The first step is to remove all the parts that are in the way of you being able to remove the valve covers. (Ex.: air intake, loose wires etc.) Then you will need to remove your valve covers (using basic tools) and be very careful to not let anything get on your lifters, which your valve covers protect. Once you have the valve covers off compare the new gaskets to make sure they are the right size. Then remove the old gasket and replace with the new one using a high temp gasket sealant (available at any auto parts store) to attach the gasket to the valve covers. Then tighten down snug and check for leaks after replaced.
