Question about 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

1 Answer

What did the dealer say?

Hi Telo62:
We are having the same problem and just took our 2002 Santa Fe in...what did they tell you? They quoted us $980 to replace the charcoal canister, canister close valve, purge control valve, and canister filter. They also said a code came up with an air flow issue and want to replace the air flow meter. Would be curious what your thoughts are on this problem and what they told you? After getting gas it struggles to start, but with gas will turn over and eventually idle on its own after 30 seconds or so.

Well, so far they said that our car (via the VIN #) did not have any recalls on it. Since I have heard about this issue, it seems that it's just design defect - since no car in my history (honda, ford, GM, SAAB, Subaru, etc.) has ever had a "Crankshaft Indicator" issue like this. We dropped it off at the dealer (Howard Hyundai, in Elmhurst) on Monday and they didn't have time to look at it YET!

Thank you for your info, I hope to find out more on Friday, and will post their findings.

We went to Wilkins Hyundai in Elmhurst, IL
Just as we were told by the Tech at NTB (where we thought it was a battery problem) that it was the Crankshaft Indicator - and it needed to be re-timed. This is what Wilkins found out (after about 3 days of waiting):
FOUND CODE: P0335 and P1372
TOTAL COST: $169.03
It was NOT an recall item.
The back hatchdoor latch issue was quoted to me but we didn't fix it. (the latch sticks in an open position) That cost was about $217...reeedonkulous!!!
It seems to be operating fine - to me it still sounds like it's racing a bit, but that's the way it always felt.

if it is still under warranty, take it back to them, tell them to fix it right this time, and yes you can reset only if you have a handheld device to plug into you car, still doesn't solve the problem though,"TAKE IT BACK"

Crankshaft sensor

go to any auto parts store. the price should be 30%-40% cheaper than the dealer.
you don't want to go to the junkyard for this. unless you want to spend some more $$ later days.
