Question about 1995 Ford Windstar
What do these codes mean for a 1995 Ford Windstar LX 3.8L;
PO171 Bank 1 Lean, PO174 Bank 2 Lean, PO402 EGR Flow, PO732 Incorrect Ratio
2nd, and PO733 Incorrect Ratio 3rd? Lights in dash: ABS, Check engine, doors, and wipers fluid. I already replaced
the Neutral Safety Switch, fuel filter, transmission fluid, and filter. I want
to know what parts I need to replace, where are located, and if the job need to
be done by a mechanic.
Mass Airflow Sensor. That is the only single item that will cause every one of those exact codes. I went through this for weeks trying to figure it out. I had just replaced the MAF sensor about 8 months prior, so I thought it must be something else. After throwing new intake gaskets and o2 sensors and fuel pressure tests and compression tests and smoking the intake, I discovered that the MAF sensor had failed. Truck runs great to this day. BTW, NEVER EVER use MAF sensor cleaner from an aerosol can on a MAF sensor, and o2 sensors do not need to be cleaned, they live in soot every day and they like it that way. They usually outlive the vehicle except in cases of over-adding STP type cleaners and using bad gas. They should only be removed when your catalytic converters finally burn out. (My opinion)
