-   I also have a 1999 VW Passat that had the ABS light come on - the brakes still work fine. Your VW's Bosch ABS module is bad. There is good news ! Go to www.modulemaster.com and read how to verify your module type and how to take your ABS module off. Mine was a Bosch 5.3 ABS module. I followed their instructions, took about an hour to take it off after removing my front left tire to get in at the left side, sent it to them for a repair within a week for $200 and 5-year warranty. Mine works fine - no problems after they fixed it for me !
