I just did a quick check on a wiring diagram and found something that at first glance makes no sense, but I'll tell you anyhow... One diagram shows power to the coil from the alternator. The other shows power coming from the ecu. I would first do a quick check... Turn the ignition key three times, leaving it on the third time (do not permit starter to engage while doing this) The check engine light will flash in code 1 flash+ #1 etc numbers are seperated by a short pause. number sets ie:23 are seperated by a longer pause. Write down #s and check in a manual for meanings. If you have not disconnected the battery at any point, pay attention to a code 12 that shows batt disconnect (which I would read as a power disconnect) also, anything else that is even remotely related. Got an alarm with engine disable in it??

Ran out of gas now wont start what is auto shut down relay (fuel)

The Automatic Shut Down relay is in the power disatribution center by the battery. It provides power to the ignition coil and the fuel injectors when it is turned on by the computer.Turn key to on and check for apower to the coil on the dark greeen wire. If you have power there, the relay is working. Don't believe it affects the pump on your jeep, but maybe. Do you hear the pump come on for 2 seconds when key is turned to on? It should come on to prime the fuel system, and then shut off. May have to be close to tank when someone turns key to on.

Check for fuel presser bleed down, does the fuel presser hold after you shut it off? or does it fall off? if so check for bad pulsar valve or bad injector ect.

DODGE DURANGO TROUBLE SHOOTING

The power to the ignition coil comes from the Auto shut down relay. It also runs the fuel pump relay. When you turn the key on it will read 12 volts, but only for about 5 seconds. The auto shut down relay is controlled by the ecm. Check the power on the coil while cranking the engine. When cranking the ecm will lock on the ASD relay.

1996 DODGE DAKOTA 3.9 NO POWER TO THE COIL

Check the auto shut down relay. It powers up the coil. But only for 3 seconds after you turn the key on or when cranking. If you just have the key on, you won't have any power at the coil.

NO Start the truck is not getting spark the coil is good but i'm not getting any power to the coil and I need to know if i'm testing it right i'm thinking it is the ignition

THE POWER TO THE IGNITION COIL COMES FROM THE AUTO SHUT DOWN RELAY..THE AUTO SHUT DOWN RELAY IS GROUNDED BY THE POWERTRAIN CONTROLLER WHEN IT SEES CAM AND CRANK SIGNALS..WHEN CRANKING..HOLD YOUR TEST LIGHT ON DG/OR WIRE AT COIL AND HAVE SOMEONE JUST TURN KEY ON..YOU SHOULD GET POWER FOR 2-3 SECONDS..IF IT DOES,THE CIRCUIT TO THE COIL IS OK..CHECK ALL FUSES..FUSE 9 IN JUNCTION BLOCK INSIDE TRUCK,FUSE 3 IN UNDERHOOD FUSE/RELAY CENTER..CHECK FOR ANY FAULT CODES IN PCM..YOU MOST LIKELY HAVE A FAULTY CAM OR CRANK SENSOR..CAN BE MONITORED WHILE CRANKING ENGINE WITH A SCAN TOOL HOOKED UP..LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU FIND
