Speedometer stops working

When driving the speedometer on my ford taurus will stop working some times, it can start working again when the car starts to speed up sometimes. not sure if its a loose wire or if the needle is just loose.

This most likely is a wiring issue. Since it works intermittently I suspect you have a wire that looses connection and then vibrates around enough to make a connection. I would have a ford mechanic to look at it. This is probably a problem that they have seen before verses a shop that you will pay a couple of hours locating the problem or them not finding it at all.

Perhaps a vehicle distance sensor located in transmission however if you have a check engine light on I would hook it up to a OBD 2 scanner to retrieve the fault code gue$$inglis not the way to go! the vehicle might have 2 of these sensors Vehicle input and output sensor be sure to check the speedometer cable to see if it is still functioning internally that would be totally mechanical!!! cable with in a cable! hope this helped you out!

Stereo stopped working along with speedometer

It's probably not a fuse. It sounds like your vehicle speed sensor went bad in the transmission. The reason your radio stopped working was because your radio is probably equipped with speed sensitive volume and it requires a speed signal to work.

1999 ford taurus transmission

Your problem is the speed sensor. The VSS (vehicle speed sensor)

is located on the right side of the transaxle, near where the right side axle shaft

connects to. To access this part is pretty tricky, if you are inexperienced. There

is an aluminum foil covered shield around the wiring connector. You will need to

remove the shield to gain access. You may even have a damaged wiring

connector, that is causing the problem due to the close proximity of this part to

the catalytic converter. If you want to purchase this part from the Ford dealer,

ask the parts counter person for the "basic" part number 9E731. Hope this helps.
