Question about 2006 GMC Envoy

1 Answer

Gas gage doesn't work

2006 GMC Envoy- gas gage worked intermittently (went to full when filled tank, then dropped back to E shortly thereafter)
Has not worked at all for past 5 months-
Is this something that can be fixed w/out bringing to dealer?
(sensor??)
Thanks-

My 2006 Envoy's gas gauge drops to E and light starts beeping, not long after I have put gas in the car. Example..it registers ½ full after I add gas...then slowly drops down to empty. I also noticed the clock on the radio has stopped keeping time. Does this have anything to do with the gas gauge? Can it be fixed at home, or does it need to be taken into the dealer? Thank you!

It is possible the sender has failed, and can be replaced.

This sits in the fuel tank, so access has to be gained, usually be removing rear seats, access cover, and removing rivets and fixings.

It would be worthwhile to gain access to it and check first for any corrosion on electrical connectors. With a meter, you can check if it is working or not. If not - order a replacement before replacing it.

Please observe all safety precautions when working on fuel systems.

I think te gas gage im my 2004 GMC Envoy is reading too low. How can I tell and and what could the problem be?

if you put any gas in the fuel tank the fuel gauge needle should move toward full mark.if not you have a faulty fuel level sending unit.its in the fuel tank attach to the fuel pump assembly.

Gas gauge was working went to put gas in started up after we filled up the tank gauge went up then droped to empty.

Unfortunately......you have a gas sending unit that has failed....and yes it is located in the fuel tank...these GMs have had a very notorious tsb for the fuel tank pump and unit assembly failing due to design.....theres nothing you can do to repair this ....but you can replace this unit.....it's kind of a bear with a full tank of gas if you're gonna be doing this yourself....on the ground...this fuel tank pump unit is found quicker and more reliably at the dealership. ...HOPE I HELPED!!!!!

GM had a problem with the fuel sending unit cards inside the fuel tank,If you replace that you should be good to go.

Fuel gage goes to zero and then to full while driving

Sounds like the sending unit is bad, which is in the gas tank.

Gas gauge not woking properly gas tank only accepts a little gas

a fuel sending unit seems to be the most popular solution. the part is about $40. I think the labor is what's going to kill you.

2006 GMC Envoy XL gas guage

most likely a fuel sending unit problem in the tank. could also be problem in dash but sending unit is first suspect

2006 GMC Envoy XL gas gauge reads empty after filling, then slowly moves up after driving but will continue to lose pressure until it reads empty and the light is on, then the check engine light came on.

The sulfur content in the fuel is contaminating the contacts of the sending unit.

Some people have had good luck with some fuel system cleaners solving this problem. The cheap stuff doesn't seem to do the job.

Not that GM isn't completely exonerated from fault but the gas stations don't do a very good job of watching what the stations sell.
