Question about 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 Club Cab

1997 Dodge Ram Console

Thanks for responding. Maybe I am using wrong terminology. Here is better description.
The truck has one front seat. There is a 'console' between the driver and passenger seats that can either be folded up in the vertical position as part of the seat back making room for three people, or folded down in horizontal position on the seat between the driver and passenger to be used as an arm rest and storage unit. It has a lid that can be used to write on or opened by pushing a release tab to store items in in like sunglasses, etc.
The problem is the console is stuck in the up position and cannot be rotated down to be used as arm rest, etc.
I have no idea why Dodge would have ever wanted the console to lock in up position, and if so, how the lock was then designed to be released.
Only thing I can figure out is that it appears they may have designed an interlock mechanism to prevent the console lid from being accidentally opened when the console was in the vertical position; and maybe this interlock device is broke or jammed prenenting the console from being lowered.

Thanks for info. You confirmed for me the console should never be 'locked' in upright position. I'm convinced the problem has something to do with the console lid inter-lock opening mechanisim to prevent the lid from bieing opened when the consloe is in the up position. They evidently have a mechanical device tied into the hinge to detect rotation when the console is up and that then prevents the lid from being opened. That mechanism must be jammed or broke. I think next time I see the truck, I will just dismantle the console at the hinge connecting points and probably remove the inter-lock mechanism comletely and just tell him to be careful to never open the lid when it is upright.

Thats a whole different ballpark. The center seat consoles do not lock upright at all there is no locking device, you just lift it up and it has a small bump that the lever hops over and this keeps it from falling back down. The only thing I can think of is something could be wedged in the lever or the rotating level itself is broken and holding the seat up. You may be able to see what is holding it if you move the drivers seat as far forward as possible and watch carefully on one side while wiggling the console back and forth and then do the same on the other side. If could be the lever bent and you may be able to bent it back into plce where it should be.

Let me know what you find, in the mean time I will check the Chrysler Star Hotline to see if there was a simular problem.

I bought a power drivers seat from a 1998 dodge ram. I have the wiring out of the truck but need to know where the wires connect. I have a 1997 dodge ram with manual seats and it's not wired for power...

The wiring should be mostly self contained in the seat. All you should need to provide is a power source and a ground. There are many places to tap into a 12V source.
I have linked to a nice wire key for that truck:

There are many things to consider with an automatic. Check that you have installed the kick down cable and spring correctly. If the kickdown is stuck or the spring is holding it in the wrong direction this will cause your problem. Insure your 8 pin plug is seated properly into into the sillinoid connector. Also check and see if any transmission codes have been set. Hope this helps.

How do you take the back seat out of a dodge ram 1500 club cab

There should be a black lever tword the front of the seat pull that to flip it up, now there should be two brackets fastened to the seat there are two 1/2 bolts that you take out. After you have the bottom off you lift up on the back, it maybe hard but it should come off.
