I have the same problem. 2004 sentra 1.8s model. Car stalled while crossing a low flooded river bridge. Pushed car to dry area and car started after 5 minutes. noticed steem comming from exhaust but cleared up in a minute or two. Checked oil to find it about a quart overfilled and looked milkey so I immediatley changed oil. Check engine soon light will not go off. Car seems to be running ok but light will not go off, I have noticed a constant clicking noise but engine seems vto run ok.

The check engine light could be on for any number of reasons, particularly in the light that the car was flooded. If it is drivable, take the car to an auto parts store like Autozone and ask them to hook up their scan tool to your cars computer and they can read the codes that are causing the light to come on. They can also tell you what the codes mean and give you a print out.

If the codes and information is not helpful, post up the codes here and I will see if I can be of further assistance.

How do i reset my service engine soon light in a 98 pontiac grand prix

If the "service soon" is turn on, this is a warning about "maintenance time" (filter and fluids change); this warning light isn't the same that "check engine".

Hope helps.

My change oil light never goes off even though I had it changed and now my service vehicle soon light is on even though its been running fine

The change oil light needs to be reset after each oil change...some shops are not knowledgeable on how to do this...Your owners manual will instruct you how to reset the oil change light...The service engine soon is a catch all for low fluids and other needs...Be sure to check your oil level again...to clear the service engine soon light, you can disconnect either battery cable for 15 minutes then reconnect...if the service engine stays on...then you need to have your Grand Am checked...Auto Zone does a free diagnostic of check engine light codes...:)

1998 Cheverolet Lumina, ''service engine soon'' and hard gear shift

I doubt the two problems are connected. I would try a new gas cap and see what happens since it runs fine. The service engine soon light won't reset on it's own right away.

I did not use my 2002 saturn sl2 for 2 weeks because I was out of state, when I came to use it it would not start, I had to "floor" the gas pedal until it started, then the service engine soon light came...

Well most likey you may have a Coolant Temp Sensor concern causing it to flood but it could also be from sitting as well. The SES probally come on due to it running a bit rough after starting & set a Misfire code. The Oil Change Light Is easy to re-set.Turn Ignition on but do not start, open hood, remove underhood fuse box cover hold down the red oil-r button for 5-8 secs.then check oil change soon lamp, should be flashing.Turn Ignition off & it's reset

Service Engine Soon

The light is on to alert U to the fact that a fault has occurred in the engine management system(s) or a part of the emission control system, there are over a 100 different problems that turn this light on, take the car to any Kragen auto parts,Auto Zone, Shukes etc and they will test the system for free, it could be as simple as a loose or defective gas cap seal, no way to tell until you give me the trouble codes.

Service engine soon & brake light stays on

the service engine light is prob due to the oxygen sensor being damaged, not replace or you having the catalytic converter taken off---just messing with you. start at auto zone and have then do a free code read then go from there. you should troubleshoot the low fluid level switch for your brake fluid. unplug it and see if the light goes off and if it doesn't jump the two terminals on the harness. oh the car will have to be running.
