Oil light keeps coming on put oil in it but it runs hot

Make sure the engine cooling fan is running when it starts to get hot.

It sounds like you have excessive bearing wear causing a low oil pressure issue at low RPMs.

put an engine flush in first . run the engine on tick over .till oil is hot then drain it. do an oil and filter change may have a build up of carbon in the engine .the flush should deal with that .use 20/40 oil .

Check themostat it ususally is located where the hose from top of radiator goe onto motor. Oil pump inside oil pan may be bad.
water pump may not be working

If your pump is leaking it will leave a puddle under the car.

Have a reputable garage check the oil pressure with a manual oil pressure gauge. Very well may have worn internal parts, or weak oil pump. Thats the only way to know for sure.

well there comes a time in the life of everything when it is just beyond help. it has done its job and needs to be retired, marvel mystery oil notwithstanding. think about it, if that stuff really worked no one would ever buy a new car, just keep dumping in that mystery stuff and keep on truckin. you may want to consider finding a similar engine, albeit with lower mileage, in a junkyard and paying someone to take the old one out and put the newer one in. there are at least two folks running ads for this service on my local big city craigslist, for sale auto parts, and having done it once or twice myself I would gladly pay another person 750 bucks to tear an engine out and put another one in.

if you have alot of mile son this car its worn crankshaft bearings. Try some oil additive this will help keep the viscosity of the oil up. if you have alot of miles drain a quart and add a quart

oil pump

It could be an oil pressure sensor faulty, just giving off bad reading when the level is actually correct.
