2003 Ranger Edge Fuel gauge

My fuel gauge will read way over full at time and fine at other times. The check engine light will come on with the bad reading. I need help to figure this out. When the gauge reads good the check eng light will go out until the next time the gauge goes wrong.

I had the truck in for Inspection and the said it showed a computer problem that needed reprograming. It was fine for 2 days. Then the gauge went above full and trigered the Ck eng lite. It all went back to normal for a while . Now it's wrong again.

I have 2003 ford ranger edge 4.0 trys to start when i first turn it over then it floods and will not runcan you tell me what to get it runing

Most likely bad fuel injector sticking open and flooding engine. Can also be bad fuel pressure regulator, but less likely Use pressure gauge to test.

I have a 2003 4x4 ranger with a 4.0. I'm experiencing a occasional jerk in 2 or 4wd at a moderate speed. Its an automatic trans. The 4x4 seems to be working fine. Could it be a fuel or ignition problem....

Check all the grounds and power cables/wires. Have the codes read, even if the engine light isn't on. Check history codes. This will lead you in a certain direction.

Gas gauge indicator goes to empty when full

sounds like you may have a bad fuel level sender problem. as for the check engine light coming on and storing a fault code that is a separate issue.

I have a hundai acent 2003 and a few months ago when i would fill up the tank of gas i had to do it very slow it would stop filling as if it was full when indeed it was not. Today i went to fill up and it...

a bad fuel level in the tank should not cause the tank not to fill up,but it can cause bad readings to the gauge. so the tank may have had more fuel in it than you thought and that is why it wouldn' t take the gas as it should. then when you filled up the next time the fuel level was correct so it filled up like you knew it was suppose to.I suggest you monitor the fuel with your trip odometer and fiil up every 200 miles to make sure the gauge is reading like it should or you may run out of gas.

How to locate and check fuel pump on 03 ford ranger edge Fx4 4.0

Locating the fuel pump is easy, it's in the fuel tank. Testing it however, is a different story. To test it "by the book" requires a scanner that can access and run "Output Test Mode" diagnostics on your engine computer, a fuel pressure gauge, and a digital volt-ohm meter.

If your engine will not start and run, you can do this to see if maybe it is the fuel pump:
First pull one of the spark plug wires to see if you have spark while someone cranks the engine for you. If there is spark, continue with these instructions. If there is no spark, close this thread out and start a new one for "2003 Ford ranger has no spark" Be sure and say also which engine your Ranger is equipped with.

Find the fuel pump relay in the under-hood fuse and relay center. The lid on the fuse box only has numbers. Your owners manual will tell you which number is the fuel pump relay. Feel the relay with your fingers while someone turns the ignition switch to the "run" position. You should feel the relay "click" then about 2 seconds later, you should feel it click again. If this is doing this, then chances are that your fuel pump is bad. (we are assuming here that you had spark above.) This is not a complete or "foolproof" test by any means, but it is probably 85% accurate for "Cranks, Won't Start" problems.

Gas gauge reads full when underway. However, when

Most likely it a bad fuel level sensor on you fuel pump. You will have to replace the fuel pump as that is the only way to replace the sensor for you fuel gauge. The sensor is built into the fuel pump. The contacts on the sensor become corroded over time and cause the sensor to malfunction causing your fuel gauge to read full all the time. I have a 2001 Montana extended version that had the same problem. In order to know when I needed to fill the tank, I would completely fill it each time I put fuel in and reset my trip odometer. I would go 400 miles on the tank before I would refuel until we were able to replace the fuel pump.

98 ford ranger fuel gauge not working

The float on the sending unit could be jammed of your have a short in the harness.

Check the harness first and pay attention to the connections, if there ok then it's the float on the sending unit on the gas tank.

Sorry for the bad news but it make start to work again any time if it is the float.

Good luck, and hope this helps

Fuel Gauge reads empty, but tank IS full

the float in your gas tank seems to have water in it....water is heavier than gas, that's why gas floats on top of water....try putting something like HEAT in it to dry up the water in your tank....
