1992 Chevy Truck dies when given gas

I have a 1992 chevy truck. the check engine soon light is on. It starts up fine. When you give it gas it boggs and eventually dies. Even when driving around 50 mph, it will lose power all of a sudden like it's not getting any gas

The fuel filter was replaced about 6 months ago. It's a K1500. I have not checked to see what the check engine soon means. Spark Plugs were changed a couple years ago but I only drive it around 2,000 miles/year. Air filter gets replaced every oil change.

The gas tank was replace before I bought it in 2004. The truck does not die, it's like if I were to take my foot off the gas, but I don't. Then eventually it comes back. Could it be the fuel pump or a bad fuel filter?

I talked to a mechanic over the phone and he suggested the mas air flow sensor. Any comments?

The first thing you need to do is find out the code that is turning on the CEL. Many failures can turn on the light and/or make an engine run poor. Throwing parts at it can get expensive! At least if you know the code it might help point you in the direction to throw. Yes a MAF sensor could make it run poor, but so could many other faults. Some parts store chains will scan it for free, and may even help you diagnose the code.

I would replace fuel filter again, since it was replaces before, it should come off easily. While it is off, put a hose on the line and run it into a pail to check flow. Could have a bad pulsator in the fuel take if GM used one on this model. Some people might change the pump without changing the pulsator. If the diaphram is leaking full pressure will not be given to the engine. Also, pull the vacuum line to the pressure regulator and check for gas. Put vacuum on regulator and see if it holds vac. If it does not, replace it.

Hi, What code is setting the CEL? You can take it to a parts store that offers free scanning/repair help to find out. What is the fuel pressure? Have you changed the fuel filter?

Have you Checked the Fuel Filter? Not sure what Model But, The C1500 Fuel Filter is Underneath and Inside of the Frame Rail on the Passenger Side. Check That and Message Back!

Getting a Scan would Help. Sounds like you might have some Small Junk in the Bottom of your Fuel tank that is getting caught every now and then in the line for the Fuel Pump. That would cause it to Die at 55!

Could go that Route. The Mass air flow Sensor Could Possibly send the wrong Signal to the Computer if it was Malfuntioning. Not very Hard to Repair Either!

1992 chevy truck wanting to run hot and then gets rough idling like it is going to die out have to give it gas

So you attack the overheating problem first before you blow an engine.

Thermostat, fan clutch, water pump, blockage in cooling system or low coolant level are some of the possibilities.
Is the gauge showing hot when it is overheating ?

Have a chevy 350 TB and it does fine in park but

Are you getting a check engien light on in your dash ?
You should have a OBD II reader plugged to retrieve any codes to help figure this out.
It could be about 6 different sensors ect.
Please let me know.
